Summary |
The Suwannimit Foundation is a Thailand registered foundation dedicated to strengthening the operational capacity and sustainability of community-based organizations that service underprivileged people on the Thailand-Burma border.
We are currently seeking for a person to fill-up our Legal Officer position.The Legal Officer will be directly seconded to the Lawyer Council of Thailand Mae Sot branch (LCT) to work with the lawyer’ network. Under supervision of the Legal Manager, the Legal Officer will support pro-bono lawyers in the development of models for legal outreach and training, case management, legal clinics at the community level, liaison with government departments, and general project management of LTC activities within PLE. |

Job Specific |
Work with the Legal Manager to provide technical support and assistance to LCT to provide legal clinics, train staff, support legal awareness activities, and provide representation for individual beneficiaries in the Thai justice system. Provide technical support to CBO service providers and civil society to increase the quality and reach of their services and ability to directly link individuals and communities with local authorities. Support the development of an effective working relationship with the Provincial Justice Office (PJO) and the Attorney General’s Department of People’s Right Protection and Legal Aid (DPRP) to enable technical support, workshops, awareness and training events targeted at CBOs, and linkages with central RTG initiatives. Support the development of a network of civil society, the Ministry of justice and the Attorney General’s Office to facilitate community engagement of local justice actors, and promote connections between community issues and advocacy initiative and policy decision making at the central level. Through dialogue, training, and technical support join with MOJ and DPRP to work with village heads and sup-district officials to develop reporting and referral to the Thai justice system in appropriate cases and to support local dispute resolution practices Work with local CBO and Thai radio stations to promote legal awareness, and will explore opportunities for using group Frontline SMS massaging to reach specific demographic groups with targeted information, as well as incident and mapping through the Ushahidi mapping platform Support the development of a Mae Sot justice network, linked to the Migrant Rights Protection Working Group and composed of interested CBOs and NGOs to link and coordinate access to justice initiatives, and feed into policy debate at the central level on justice and related issues through links with the LCT, central MoJ and Attorney general’s Office, the National Human Rights Commission, the MWG, and other policy level stakeholders. Assist PLE protection trainers with aspects of their work that relate to Thai law. Promote close coordination and integration with other project sectors. Promote partner relationships based on principles of mutual trust and respect, mutual accountability, reciprocity, inclusion and transparency.
