As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the German government owned Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH operates on behalf of German Ministries, the governments of other countries and international clients. GIZ has a record of more than 55 years working in Thailand. For a project on “Global Partnership on Drug Policies and Development” we are currently looking for a Project Coordinator.
Project Coordinator
The overall objective of the new program “Global Partnership for Drug Policies and Development” within the budget title “International Cooperation with Regions for Sustainable Development” (IZR, German acronym) is formulated as follows: interested governments have enhanced evidence-based as well as development- and public health-oriented drug policies within their national drugs and development policies.
The IZR-project GPDPD works globally across different sectors and focuses on three operational fields of action: within field of action (1), the project fosters international drug policy dialogue towards UNGASS and beyond. Within field of action (2), the project draws on an alliance of implementation partners to deliver pilot-level advisory services to interested governments in India, Colombia, Morocco and Myanmar. Within field of action (3), the project contributes to a strengthening of the scientific basis for evidence-based drug policies. All three operational fields center on and seek to promote alternative development- and public health-oriented drug policy approaches.
The implementation partners in operational field (2) include the Thai Mae Fah Luang Foundation (MFLF) under Royal Patronage that will operate in the framework of a grant agreement with the GPDPD. As part of this cooperation, a) training activities in the field of “Alternative Development” in Thailand will be jointly implemented as well as b) joint advisory activities to partner agencies in the target countries of the project will be conducted. The project coordinator will be permanently placed at the Mae Fah Luang Foundation Headquarters in Bangkok. Mae Fah Luang Foundation will allocate accordingly one staff member to co-implement with the project coordinator all joint activities under the umbrella of the GPDPD, including regular training activities in Thailand and advisory services abroad.
Responsibilities:
The project coordinator is responsible for
co-implementing in close cooperation with the GPDPD team and the Mae Fah Luang Foundation counterpart all issues related to training and advisory activities in the framework of the GPDPD in Thailand and abroad and by this contributing to the overall achievement of the GPDPD goals in the field of action I “UNGASS preparation” and field of action II “advise to interested governments and training”
cooperating closely with the Mae Fah Luang Foundation counterpart and other relevant internal and external partners within the framework of the GPDPD
communication within the general partner framework of GPDPD and liaison activities with the Mae Fah Luang Foundation counterpart
contributing to Monitoring & Evaluation as well as regular planning and reporting activities under supervision of the GPDPD team
We are looking for a candidate who possesses:
masters/MSc in international relations, international development, international drug policies, agriculture, political science, sociology or other related areas of expertise related to the projects
Professional experience
5 - 10 years’ professional experience, with at least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position and within an international setting
Working experience at / with GIZ will be an asset
Other knowledge, additional competences
excellent communication skills and social competencies, and experienced in coordination works with high-level persons and international partners
very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
fluent written and oral knowledge of English and Thai. Working knowledge of German will be an asset
willingness to travel up-country and abroad as requested/needed by the project
This will be a fixed-term contract, starting February 1, 2016 and running until April 30, 2017.
