Position Title: Agriculture Specialist (Thai nationality only)
Reports to: Agriculture Project Manager
Based at: WWF-Thailand, Bangkok Office
Background:
WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future, in which humans live in harmony with nature by conserving biodiversity, ensure sustainable use of resources and reduce pollution and wasteful consumption.
As the production and demand for food, fiber and energy commodities threaten the environment, WWF-Thailand’s Sustainable Market Project works with the communities, businesses and government agencies involved in these industries to reduce their environmental impact.
Job purpose:
In line with WWF Thailand Strategic Plan 2015-2020 (SP 2015-2020), this position will implement WWF-Thailand’s market transformation initiative for the agriculture sector, which focuses on responsible agriculture, sustainable supply chain development, and the application of certification schemes such as Bonsucro for sugar cane production. The position will provide technical advice on agriculture management to local communities, the private sector, and government agencies. The ultimate aim is to help WWF promote sustainable production for key commodities in Thailand.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Carry out research and produce reports, including supply chain mapping for agricultural commodities such as sugar, corn, palm oil, and other commodities.
Develop and implement workplans and deliver activities and policies related to responsible production and sourcing of key agricultural commodities under the Sustainable Markets Project.
Private sector engagement: involve relevant players (farmers retailers) along the whole supply chain to commit to sustainable practices and certification where possible.
Create and develop ideas with Marketing and Communication teams to launch an awareness campaign and raise awareness for responsible domestic consumption of agricultural commodities and related conservation issues.
Maintain and develop existing database of relevant agriculture related institutions (i.e. government, company, institution, university NGO, farmers) and build WWF’s agriculture network in close collaboration with the Greater Mekong Program (GMP).
Write progress reports on activities and provide relevant information to management team.
Attend and host relevant training workshops to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
Work closely with WWF-Germany, Indonesia, and the Philippines on the International Climate Initiative (IKI) project.
Qualifications
§ PhD or Masters Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field
§ 3-5 years relevant experience on sustainable agriculture management, including knowledge of Bonsucro or other certification schemes.
§ Good knowledge of agriculture sector in Thailand or other SE Asian countries
§ Fluent communication and writing skill in Thai and English
§ Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs)
§ Mapping skills using GPS and GIS
