Background and Purposes:

The World Wide Fund for Nature (formerly World Wildlife Fund (WWF)) aims to conserve nature and ecological processes by preserving biodiversity, ensuring sustainable use of natural resources and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful use of resources and energy. WWF works in more than 100 countries around the world. WWF has been working in Thailand since 1983 and WWF-Thailand was founded in 1995.

WWF-Thailand implements a strategy that harnesses the strengths of the WWF network to focus on four major goals - freshwater, wildlife, oceans, and forests, and three key drivers of environmental problems – markets, finance, and governance. In support of this strategy, WWF-Thailand works with government, business, civil society, and individuals to achieve our global goals for the benefit of the people of Thailand and the world.  WWF Thailand now launches its Sustainable Market project in fisheries, forestry, and agriculture to assist and guide businesses towards more environmentally sustainable practice. WWF plans to achieve this by engaging with various stakeholders including government agencies, private sectors, standard owners and consumers to influence this change. This position is very important in leading change within the Thai fishery industry towards more sustainable practice. This includes crafting and revising the existing strategies to fit with ongoing project and changing market dynamics

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and implement seafood and fisheries strategy to achieve the organization objectives
  • Engage strategic partners in fisheries sector by several methods such as fisheries roundtables and influencing government and ministries - fisheries, commerce, labor -  to transform value chains
  • Liaise with internal Network fisheries and seafood market teams to align with global goals in selected species
  • Collaborate with international fisheries certifying bodies such as MSC, IFFO, and organizations working in sustainable fisheries such as the ISSF, SFP, etc. to ensure WWF’s expectations regarding sustainability, social issues, transparency, and traceability are met
  • Oversee fisheries team who takes responsibility to follow up the policy progress in a covered area to ensure the achievement on a timeline
  • Coordinate with Greater Mekong country teams and regional teams in Asia Pacific, Practices including the Coral Triangle Network initiatives and the global network for fisheries and seafood work, sharing knowledge and training where required
  • Working closely with communication and campaign team to ensure an effective campaign on sustainable seafood

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Resource management, or in relevant fields.
  • Minimum 3 years in supply chain management and sustainable production of seafood
  • Familiar with Marine Ecosystems, Fisheries Governance
  • Experience in Project and Budget management
  • Strategic thinking
  • Fluency  in English
