Background and Purposes:

The Dawna Tenasserim Landscape is a treasure trove of biodiversity. The Western Forest Complex in the Thailand side of the Dawna Tenasserim harbors the largest population of tigers within the Greater Mekong. The Dawna Tenasserim as a whole is a global priority for the conservation of tigers, leopards, and other cat species. The Dawna Tenasserim is also a stronghold for Asian elephants in a region where elephant populations are steeply declining. As many as 1,600 Asian elephants may roam the Dawna Tenasserim’s forests. At the same time, the landscape faces a number of challenges including land conversion, illegal wildlife trade, and cross border investment and supply chains.  As the scope of the overall and transboundary program expands, further staffing is required to provide support to the DTL Transboundary Manager, particularly in the work in Thailand. The focus will be on community engagement, working on transboundary illegal wildlife trade and examining options for community-based conservation in the Thailand DTL

Major Role Responsibilities

• Leading stakeholder mapping and social analysis activities in DTL Thailand landscape, possibly with consultant support.
• Supporting DTL Thailand social safeguards work by engaging in community-level consultations and assessments as needed.
•  Working with key stakeholder groups within DTL work sites and building linkages with Karen and other ethnic minority groups that span across Myanmar – Thailand border.
•  Supporting building a program of people-centered tiger conservation in key tiger heartlands and work areas in Thailand DTL.
• Liaising with key partners, including other WWF colleagues, CSOs, NGOs and government actors in supporting a whole landscape vision and strategy.
• Providing coordination and other support to Thailand DTL wildlife team as needed.
• Collecting data and mapping illegal wildlife trade-related activities and information in Thailand DTL. Supporting research, tracking illegal wildlife trafficking across the Thai – Myanmar border.
• Conducting research in Thai language and translating into English as needed to contribute to reports and summaries for use in fundraising and reporting materials.
• Supporting Transboundary Manager in the organization of meetings and financial management and administration as needed.
• Contribute to reporting writing on relevant tasks as needed.

Required Qualification

• 5 years of experience working in forestry and/or forest conservation and management
• 3 year’s experience working at local community or CSO level is preferable
• Experience in Community engagement and  advocacy
• Bachelor degree in social sciences, forestry, conservation, natural resources management is preferable
• Fluent in Thai is a must and English
• Good in report writing in Thai but preferably in English
