Introduction
The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station of the faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome Trust (UK). The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalized populations living on both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border in the Mae Sot area, Tak Province. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

Location: Mae Sot 

Probation: Subject to 3 months probation before confirmation

Report to:  Chief Operating Officer

Staff under supervision:  Data Management Assistant, Data Entry

The Data Manager is responsible for of all data systems and is responsible for the management of the data-team.

He/she designs, develops and implements data-collection databases, trains and motivates the data-team and makes improvements to the data-systems to ensure high standards of data-quality for research.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

• Conducts routine maintenance of databases
• Ensures all data systems meet user requirements
• Manage the team to achieve targets
• Provide training and technical assistance to the team
• Communicate with other departments about data-collection requirements

Position requirements:

Technical qualification and skills

• Degree in Computer Science or related field, or significant professional experience in software/data engineering
• Strong skills in database design (SQL, normalization)
• Three years' experience managing a team in a professional setting
• Experience with SQL-server, MS Access and VBA

• Self-motivated and goal-oriented
• Excellent organizational and people-management skills
• Strategic and creative problem-solver
• Attention to detail
• Proficient in English
• Thai and Karen language preferred
