Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
The International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) “Promoting stability, well-being and harmony for Myanmar Muslim and host communities in Thailand” project aims to promote community stabilization for marginalized Myanmar Muslims and disadvantaged Thais in host communities in the provinces of Tak (Mae Sot), Ranong and Phang Nga.
The project aims to create stability and harmony by improving living conditions and access to services; standardizing response and care; and, creating coherence and predictability in policy, practice and programming that contribute to the overall wellbeing of this vulnerable group and its host community.
One element of this project is Communication and Visibility, which is to be realized by raising awareness about the programme’s objectives and activities amongst the targeted beneficiaries and stakeholders in the selected provinces.
By employing a Communication for Development (C4D) approach, the project aims to work with the communities to find solutions to problems that the beneficiaries face. Creating communication materials (such as videos) in relevant languages (Thai and Burmese) and promotional materials, (including t-shirts, bags, etc.) based on a C4D approach will help inspire behaviour change to better the living situation of the project’s beneficiaries.
The objective of the assignment is to produce a short video that encourages positive and peaceful conflict resolution within the family to deter viewers from practicing domestic violence. The video will be used in trainings to model positive behaviour and inspire people to refrain from violence.
In line with best C4D practice, the script/storyboard of the conceptualized video must also be pre-tested with the target audience to ensure that the message and story is understood, relevant and attractive to the target audience. Feedback from the pre-testing sessions are to be shared with IOM and changes to incorporate the feedback from the target audience must be addressed in a revised storyboard ahead of filming.

Background information |
As in any community, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or religion, there are instances of domestic violence in migrant communities in Mae Sot, where wives and/or children are facing physical abuse. To help stem this problem, IOM wants to create a short video that re-creates the idea of masculinity and leadership, showing that real manliness means to control one’s temper, be kind and find peaceful solutions to family problems. |
