Background/IRC Summary:

Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces

 

Job Overview/Summary:

IRC is currently looking for a motivated medical professional who has a background in Clinical filed  with substantive training experience in a curative and preventive healthcare setting. This position is based in the IRC Office in Sangklaburi. The Clinical Trainer will be responsible for organizing initial training for a cadre of medic and midwife students in Ban Don Yang and Tham Hin temporary shelters in Kanchanaburi  and Ratchaburi province. Training courses will include management of common Primary Health Care diseases, common infectious diseases of public health concerns, common chronic diseases, medical emergencies, surgical emergencies, obstetric emergencies and pediatric emergencies in accordance with standard protocols observed in the hospitals in the refugee camps.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  1. 1. Conduct training assessment to identify level of knowledge of participants in order to design training method and training materials
  2. 2. Review the existing CCSDPT (Committee for Coordination of Services to Displaced Persons in Thailand) Medic Training curriculum and other IRC training Curriculums, suggest necessary change or inputs to meet with the camp context and participants training need assessment.
  3. 3. Develop and finalize training manual, materials, schedules, evaluation checklists and other necessary

protocols based on the CCSDPT training curriculum for the training of medics in Ban Don Yang and midwifes in Tham Hin refugee camps.

  1. 4. Conduct training for participants namely camp base assistants – medic and midwife students based on the curriculum developed and the agreed timelin
  2. 5. Prepare monthly and final reports to provide updates of the training to the Senior Health Coordinator

       and the Senior Clinical Managers.

  1. 6. Conduct evaluation checklist and final examination, analyses result of training and provide feedback to

Senior Health Coordinators and Senior Clinical Managers

  1. 7. Upon completion of the training, coordinate with Clinical Managers and evaluate knowledge, skills and attitude of new medic students, so as to develop further training needs including on-the-job training

Deliverables:

  • Review training curriculums ( Medics, Midwifes and Nurses)
  • Training needs assessment and training plan for medic and midwife students
  • Progress report submitted on a monthly basis on the progress of the training
  • Training package, which includes training materials and training manuals
  • Feedback from the students and training evaluation results

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to:  Senior Health Coordinator

Position directly supervises:  None

Indirect Reporting: Filed Coordinator, Senior Clinical Managers.

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: Senior Clinical Managers (PHC, RCH), Laboratory Technical

Officer, and Community Health Supervisor, Psychosocial team and Nurses

External: Camp Health Coordinator

Job Requirements:

 

  • The requirements should establish a baseline (minimum) for educational background, previous work experience, professional knowledge or certification, specific skills and strengths and any other skill necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

 Education: Medical Doctor (M.B., B.S)

 

Work Experience:  Minimum of three (3) years of experiences in clinical care and training and/or oversight of health staff preferably in a primary healthcare setting

 

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

 

  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Professional character
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Working in refugee camp setting or a developing country strongly preferred

 

Language Skills:

  • Fluency in Burmese and English
  • Other local languages, such as Karen and Thai are an added advantage

 

Certificates or Licenses: Doctor of Medicine (MD) Bachelor of Science (BS)

 

Working Environment: The position will be based in the IRC office in Sangklaburi, with frequent and regular travel to the refugee camps, and the Thailand-Myanmar border area.
