Project Overview:

 

The project will promote inter-communal collaboration, mutual understanding and positive engagement between Pattani-Malay and Thai Buddhists, while improving economic opportunities for vulnerable youth in Pattani Province, Thailand. This will be achieved by addressing key conflict drivers, including the lack of economic opportunities for youth, the lack of trust among local populations in government institutions, particularly educational, and growing patterns of prejudice between Pattani-Malay and Thai Buddhist communities.

 

Specifically, the project will bring Pattani-Malay and Thai Buddhist youth together to participate in culturally sensitive and relevant vocational training and collaborative small enterprise development training, which will be developed collaboratively by local stakeholders, such as CSOs, Government authorities (OVEC), businesses and vocational training colleges. Social cohesion between youth and potential employers will be further promoted through internship opportunities (i.e. Pattani-Malay youth interning at Thai Buddhist business, and vice versa) to improve the employability and skill development of VT graduates.

 

Job Description:

 

  • Identify VT trainers from local VTCs, recruit trainers from within CSOs and provide ToT in collaboration with partners
  • Provide technical support and ongoing input to VT and CSO trainers who will deliver an innovative model for peer-to-peer (P2P) learning in vocational training and SED programs in specialised subject matter to youth and young adults of Thai Buddhist and Pattani Malay communities
  • Support VT trainers in the delivery of VT and SED courses on a day-to-day basis
  • Support PM with the development and adaptation of VT and SED curricula in collaboration with local VTC instructors, a technical consultant and CSOs
  • Liaise with partner organisations on the selection of VT and SED beneficiaries;
  • Coordinate with all relevant local stakeholders in Pattani on day-to-day operational issues of the project.

Qualifications:

 

  • Languages: Thai (Fluency required), English (Written and spoken required), Jawi (preferred)
  • Understanding of local context, specifically social tensions between ethnic and religious groups, in the Deep South of Thailand
  • Selected candidates will be vetted to ensure a commitment to protect children from abuse
  • Previous experience of working within an international NGO
  • Previous experience of project management
