Oxfam is a global movement of people working together to end the injustice of poverty.
Together we save and rebuild lives in disasters. We help people build better lives for themselves. We speak out on the big issues that keep people poor, like inequality, discrimination against women and climate change. And we won’t stop until every person on the planet can live without poverty.
We are an international confederation of 20 organizations (affiliates) working together with partners and local communities in the areas of humanitarian, development and campaigning, in more than 90 countries.
In the past 13 years, Oxfam in Thailand has been working with local partners to shift the power for small-scale producers to have access and control over land and coastal resources, which is one of the root causes of inequalities and social divide.
At global level, we recognise that the overall food system is broken. Power and profits in food chains is concentrated among a few big food and beverage companies, traders, suppliers and food retailers, while millions of small scale farmers and workers in food chains too often receive a disproportionately small share of the value they are generating. At country level, Thailand’s food system has become critically unsustainable due to its negative impacts on the environment, labour and human rights, and inequality. This has given rise to the Oxfam’s confederation wide consumer campaign that will run from September 2017 – April 2020, with the aim to rebalance power and value in the global food system so that especially women workers and small scale producers achieve decent work and a living income.
To deliver such result, we commit to strengthen civil society network, build innovative consumer communications and strategically engage with private sector and other key players. Under the implementation of the EU-SWITCH Asia supported project ‘Consumer and Retailers in Thailand Driving Sustainable Food Market in Seafood, Chicken and Banana Food Supply Chains’, we aim to mobilise urban consumers and engage target food retailers to improve sourcing policies that benefit small and women producers and workers in food production and supply chains in Thailand.
