WCS Thailand Program has been established since 1997; we are working closely with the Thai government and in cooperated with several academic institutes as well as local and international private organizations to achieve its mission to strengthen the science-based conservation principle, in order to preserve the intact wildlife and wild place in Thailand.”

 

Job position: GIS Specialist.

Position Type: Local Full Time Contract

Location: Nonthaburi, Thailand

Reports to: Conservation Program Manager, Thailand Program

Job Summary:

The GIS specialist will work under the supervision of the Country Director and in close supervision of Conservation Program Manager. This position will be based in Nonthaburi, Thailand. S/he is responsible for completing GIS mapping and graph requests, using GIS software and related requirement. S/he will assist in improving the efficiency of Smart Patrol system and SMART program for WCS-TP and other project sites as request (both territorial and marine). S/he will support colleagues on GIS data and database of WCS-TP also support GIS/RS data and database designs all of WCS Thailand Projects. S/he will assist in coordination of Training program between WCS and other agencies as well as support colleague in training for students to improve capacity on using up-to-date technologies in wildlife management.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master of Science in Forest Engineering, and/or Geographic Information System or a related graduate degree;
  • Good spoken and written English language skills;
  • Proficiency with standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access);
  • Advanced skills in mapping software (e.g. ArcGIS, ERDAS), navigating and collecting data using GPS technology;
  • Technical understanding, attention to detail and thoroughness, strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Must be organized; flexible in schedule; adaptable;
  • Be efficient in time management, assigned projects, duties and responsibilities.
  • Competency in data management & analysis

PREFERED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in training government law enforcement staff particularly park rangers and wildlife officers;
  • Experience in use of law enforcement databases especially SMART;
  • Language: English language is essential to effective performance in this position.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare GIS/RS data and database designs for wildlife monitoring project.
  • Support GIS/RS data and database designs all of WCS Thailand Projects in Western, Dong Phayayen – Khao Yai, Khaeng Krachan Forest Complexes,  as well as local NGOs, and DNP.
  • Assist in SMART database and provide patrol data for patrol planning and decision making. Support colleague by GIS data and patrol data from SMART database.
  • Prepare technical reports and other correspondences (such as annual report, manual, poster and presentation) with data analysis.
  • Support colleague in training for students to improve capacity on using up-to-date technologies in wildlife management.
  • Perform other duties as requested by senior management.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
