The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station attached to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. It is part of the Mahidol Oxford Research Unit (MORU) which is a collaborative effort between Mahidol and Oxford Universities, and is part-funded by a UK charity, the Wellcome Trust. SMRU’s aims are to:
i. Treat and care for patients with malaria.
ii. Undertake research into malaria in this area in order to determine the best methods of prevention and treatment.
iii) To advise on the treatment and the control of malaria in the South East Asia region and more widely.
Since 2009, SMRU is engaged also in Tuberculosis program with activities on active and passive case findings, diagnosis and treatment of TB patients with updated protocol and best quality of care in full cooperation with national programs and other stakeholders
Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Publish announcement of vacant position, prepare interview schedule and inform interview result for selected candidates according to SMRU routine process.
- Prepare employment contracts, staff card and ensure all HR related documents (Starter form, CV, degrees, transcript, licenses, Job description, Bank book etc.) are in place.
- Ensure all new clinic based staffs receive HR orientation properly.
- Assist on staff probation: probation contract, assessment form, etc.)
- Apply health insurance for new recruited staff and inform related sectors for membership further process.
- Register personal income tax number of new recruited staff.
- Prepare monthly payroll for METF field staff according to SMRU procedures.
- Monthly validate Leave Request Forms for staff update remaining days.
- Monitor contract ending dates and process according to SMRU procedure
- Maintain quality for staff’s personal files and regularly update according to SMRU procedure.
- Prepare references letter or certificates as requested.
- Assist on staff departure: resignation letters, asset return, etc.
- Communicate with SMRU clinic staff for information sharing as well as obtaining information from clinic to SMRU MS Office
- Response to staff questions on Human Resource issues with liaise of HR Manager and administration department
- Monthly prepare Master file and head count report
- Assist in taking meeting minutes as required
Essential criterial
- Diploma , High Vocational Certificate or high school degree
- Fluent in English and Karen (or Burmese) and basic Thai
- Experienced in management of data files and expert of Microsoft Excel
- Good communication skills
- Ready to any assignment required by the unit
Desirable criteria
- An appreciation of working in a low resource situation
- Previous experience working on the Thai-Burma border
- Commitment for a minimum of 1 year
- Flexibility and capacity to integrate a multi-lingual team
- Interest in how use computer as a tool for data analysis
