The Forest Restoration Research Unit (FORRU-CMU) (www.forru.org) of the Biology Department of Chiang Mai University carries out research to develop new methods to restore forest to degraded areas for the conservation of biodiversity. It also implements both local and international education and outreach services for schools, local communities and forestry institutions of neighbouring countries.
FORRU-CMU is therefore looking for a forest restoration education officer to implement these activities:
Education events for school children in both Thai and English.
Workshops and extension activities to help local communities establish restoration projects.
A database of organizations involved in forest restoration.
Material for FORRU’s website, Facebook and other online presence.
Teaching materials and contributing to the unit's publications.
Present the work of the unit at national or international meetings.
Activities and outputs required by the “Forests on Blackboards Project” funded by the Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund.
The education officer will be based at the Department of Biology, Chiang Mai University, but will also work at field sites in northern Thailand and possibly neighboring countries.
Qualifications Required
A degree (BSc. or MSc.) in forestry, agriculture, plant sciences, education, or social sciences, together with a strong interest in environmental issues and previous experience working with environmental NGO’s or community groups. A high standard of English and Thai are essential. Computer literacy, including spread-sheets, web-page construction, desktop publishing and PowerPoint is required plus ability to drive and a clean driver’s license.
Salary 15,000- 18,000 baht/month (depending on qualifications/experience) + insurance. Flexible working hours and holidays.
