About the role
You will devise and deliver a media strategy for Asia and the Pacific Region as part of VSO’s Global Communications Strategy. This will include support for brand awareness, programming, fundraising and volunteer recruitment. The successful candidate will work with the VSO Programme Director, Country Offices, Fundraising and recruitment staff teams in the UK and Asia and the Pacific Region to deliver media coverage that publicises VSO’s work, in line with timelines and strategies of these teams.
This unique role will allow the successful candidate to help VSO shape media messages across two continents, with the aim of moving governments to step up their work on ending poverty, and showcasing to the international development sector and the public our exceptional programmes.
About you
You are a self starter with extensive experience in communications and/or journalism in Asia and/or the Pacific Region. You understand the issues that are important to VSO communications and how to identify good opportunities to publicise the work we do.
You write inspiring and accurate copy and know how to pitch and secure strategic media coverage for VSO and its mission. You have established contacts with print, broadcast, digital journalists and programme-makers in Asia and/or the Pacific Region.
You have strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and effectively manage competing organisational demands. You will also have excellent IT and up to date social media skills as well as a proven ability to work independently.
It’s essential that you will have an excellent standard of written and spoken English.
This is a national hire post under national terms and conditions. Right to work in Thailand is required. We will not be able to obtain visa and work permit to non-Thai nationals.
