JOB TITLE: Communications and Media Coordinator
TEAM/PROGRAMME: Program Quality and Development LOCATION: Bangkok (with some travel)
Type of Contract: 1 year (with possible extensions subject to performance and funding)

Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people
ROLE PURPOSE:
The role of the media and communications coordinator is to support the development of and coordinate the implementation of campaign communications strategies, media engagement plans, digital and social media strategies, visibility and communications plans for programmes and Save the Children’s brand roll-out.
The post holder will lead the production and development of communications materials that are necessary for communication with donors, stakeholders, government, beneficiaries and Save the Children staff members. S/he will work on positive media relations with the local media outlets in Thailand, to boost the public profile of Save the Children in Thailand.
The media and communications coordinator will ensure smooth flow of information and stories from the field to the Bangkok office, ensuring that products are made available in Thai and English across all platforms, including One Net, website, Facebook and for internal purposes. The post-holder will be in charge of the development of written, multimedia and digital assets, that will positively represent the work of Save the Children both externally and internally. In addition, the Communications and Media Coordinator will project-manage the organisation of events as required by his/her line manager.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Media Engagement
• Lead the development and implementation of media tactics for advocacy strategies, to best influence our target audience through the right channels.
• Actively engage the local media to raise Save the Children’s public profile and spread messages from Save the Children that can help influence policy makers, the public, and gain acceptance from the general public and beneficiaries
• Produce and ensure the quality of media engagement materials, including media packs, press releases, and information sheets
• Produce key messages for spokespeople across all programs in Save the Children as required
• Proactively seek out key media opportunities and pitch them to senior members of staff, including senior management teams, technical advisors and heads of programmes
• Support national and international media engagement in humanitarian crises in Thailand
• Oversee regular media monitoring of the local media on what is being reported on key issues related to children and Save the Children
• Oversee media field visits
Communications
• Produce accurate, clear and consistent information and communications outputs that highlight the development situation in Thailand, including case studies, feature stories, and blogs
• Produce visually appealing and brand-aligned external marketing materials for all sectors and programmes that have requested it
• Lead in the development of multimedia materials, including photos, videos, infographics, animation, etc.
• Produce information and education materials for programme teams that have requested it
• Develop specific communications plans for each project and ensure roles and responsibilities for implementation of the plan are agreed and clear
• Keep all social media and web sites updated including our Thailand Office sites and all related project sites; actively participate in social media conversations on the situation in Thailand, through Facebook and other outlets
• Ensure good external representation of Save the Children through marketing materials and the management of Save the Children’s website.
• Proactively seek out communications opportunities to showcase Save the Children (and its consortiums and fund management teams) programme successes, both internally and externally
• Ensure high-quality internal communications materials across our internal channels. Promote sharing, learning, and interactive dialogue among staff
• Support the development of program proposals to design log frames and budgets, and draft narratives as they relate to communications activities
Campaigning
• Support Save the Children’s campaign efforts through raising public awareness on education issues, through popular mobilisation events, high level advocacy events and media collaboration
Brand Management
• Lead in the roll-out of the 2016 global brand refresh
• Ensure all materials are printed and designed according to Save the Children’s brand guidelines
• Be a brand ambassador, promoting the values, behaviour and aesthetics of the brand
Emergency Responses
• With the direction and support of the Emergency Response team, lead in media and communications in emergency situations, producing high quality fundraising material, communicate the situation for children on the ground and ensure accurate and concise situation reports and dashboards
• During security incidents or crises, send out brief daily updates on the external situation
• Deploy in the event of an emergency if necessary to gather necessary content
• Lead in national and international media engagement in emergencies in Thailand, including acting as a media spokesperson
Events
• Host donor trips as necessary
• Help organise external events for the country office as necessary
Capacity Building
• Build capacity of programme staff to understand the campaign and communications

QUALIFICATIONS
Skills and Experience:
• At least 5 years’ experience in advertising, communications, media management, event management, marketing, public relations, or any related field. Experience of leading or implementing strategic communications campaigns. Experience of working in related human development issues especially one or more of Save the Children’s sectors (i.e. child poverty, child protection, child rights governance, education, health and nutrition, child safety) an advantage.
Education:
• Bachelor Degree in communications, arts, fine arts, or any related field.
Communication and Technical Skills:
• Excellent English and Thai communications skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to speak confidently in front of the media, donors and senior staff
• Ability to deliver key messages to the media
• Good eye for page layouts and design
• Good understanding of social media engagement
• Good understanding of the key components in brand management
• Excellent personal organisational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
• Willingness to travel to field offices and work in difficult environment according to travel requirements
General:
• Good network management skills/experience and proven ability to create an environment which encourages team working.
