International Sustainable Development Studies Institute (ISDSI) is a part of The Foundation for Experiential
Learning, a non-profit educational foundation established in Thailand to help support the development of
innovative experiential learning internationally. ISDSI is an internationally recognized leader in study abroad,
receiving students from leading American colleges and universities to study Thai culture, ecology and
development (www.isdsi.org).
ISDSI has an opening for a Field Instructor position to join our team in June 2016.
Field Instructors work in as a team under the leadership of a Lead Instructor in teaching courses on sustainable
agriculture, forest ecology, mangrove and reef ecology, and related topics. Much of the time is spent outside the
classroom in the field, villages, mountains and islands of Thailand. It is a challenging, but rewarding, job.
Responsibilities:
• Field instructor for Expedition Field Courses (EFCs) during the semester
• Work to support and assist with EFCs logistics
• Work with ISDSI staff to strengthen our teaching, instructional training, and curriculum development related to sustainability and environmental topics
• Develop curriculum and programs related to sustainability at the Institute
• Work with local partners (NGOs and local communities) as needed to advance their research, information dissemination, and programming
• Develop and coordinate special projects as needed
• Assist in extending and deepening our partnerships with US colleges and universities.
Skills and Qualifications:
• B.A. degree or M.A/M.S in education, social science, sciences or professional training in sustainable development and/or related field is desirable.
• Thai national.
• Demonstrable abilities in teaching, planning, coordination and communication.
• Physically fit and ability to participate in outdoor activities such as swimming, skin diving, hiking, backpacking, sea kayaking, etc.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Self starter.
• Excellent communication skills, both in spoken and written English and Thai.
• Skilled in the use of computer software, internet research, etc.
