Reports to: Sustainable Markets Programme Manager

Based at: WWF Thailand, Bangkok Office

Background:

To address the environmental and social challenges posed by the rapid development of aquaculture, WWF and other partners have recently helped establish the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), to develop sustainability standards for aquaculture sourcing and production.  While other, industry backed standards exist for sustainable farmed fish production, the ASC standards are the only ones developed through a truly multi-stakeholder process (including participation of Civil Society), the only ones that are ISEAL compliant and the only ones that include ILO labour conventions for production.  Broader adoption of the ASC standards will help ensure that global aquaculture production is environmentally sustainable, addresses key social issues (labour, health and safety, indigenous and local rights) and is a truly sustainable development asset for economic development in poor countries.

Job purpose:

To assist the aquaculture team to plan and carry out awareness raising activities related to the SIDA Farmed Fish Project and Aquaculture Improvement Project under the AIPIIASC Project to promote sustainable and responsible practices

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Engage key stakeholders of farmed fish supply chain and maintain relationship

Prepare and develop materials for AIP framework workshop

Train farmed fish producers/small-holders and private sectors to understand processes and enable selected community to implement steps and processes in AIP

Monitor and evaluate the project implementation by producers/small-holders and private sectors to ensure compliance and transparency

Create and develop promotional materials for sustainable seafood public awareness campaign for domestic consumption

Organise sustainable seafood public awareness campaign for domestic consumption to achieve outreach as involvement within AIP Framework grows

Conduct policy analysis to identify gaps, barriers, and solutions for sustainable/ASC farmed fish production

Build and/or strengthen government’s capacity to endorse sustainable/ASC farmed fish production

Advocate sustainable/ASC farmed fish production to policy makers & natural resource managers to change regulations and increase capacity

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Fishery, Marine Science, Environmental Management, Agriculture Studies or related field

Good knowledge and understanding of seafood industry in Thailand and related policies
