Engagement and Communications Officer   

 

Location: Bangkok, Thailand 

Duration: One-year contract (full time)

Closing Date: deadline 15 July 2026

Starting Date: 1 September 2026, or as negotiated 

Hours of Work: 40 hours / week, Monday - Friday between 9:00 and 17:30

Responsible to: Executive Director, Asia Pacific Alliance for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (APA)

 

The Asia Pacific Alliance for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (APA) mobilizes civil society advocacy across the region to hold governments and other stakeholders accountable for their obligations and commitments to realize the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of all persons in Asia and the Pacific.  

 

APA is a network of national, regional and global civil society organizations that work on a range of SRHR issues in the areas of advocacy, human rights, service delivery and public health research in the Asia Pacific region.  APA uses two main strategies to achieve its objectives, regional advocacy and capacity building.  APA Coordinating Office (CO), registered as a Foundation in Bangkok, Thailand, is responsible for undertaking the communications and advocacy efforts for the network.

Job purpose:

The Engagement and Communications Officer will assist with implementation of APA’scommunication strategies (internal and external) and advocacy in order to increase the visibility of the APA network, its members and their work on SRHR issues on national, regional and international level; utilizing a variety of communication channels including APA website, listserves, web portal and social media.  

 

The officer will manage communications and advocacy resources which can include proactively developing content (stories, photos, infographics, case stories, policy briefs, newsletters etc.) in collaboration with CO and partners, and other communications materials; translating research into advocacy materials; monitoring regional developments related to SRHR, and supporting APA Working Groups.   The Engagement and Communications Officer will also support the implementation of APA projects and activities such as capacity trainings, webinars and conference sessions.  

 

Essential job functions 

Job requirements will vary from month-to-month dependent on the needs of the coordinating office, but include:  

 

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of the annual communications workplan in alignment with APA’s Communications Strategy and Visual Guidelines  
  • Manage social media engagement, ensuring creation of dynamic new content and consistency of messaging across social media platforms (website, Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, etc); monitor and achieve targets for an increase in impact and followers. This includes:  
    • Knowledge management and curation of content on the APA website, webportal and other platforms;  
    • Development of social media campaigns for the network
    • Monitor media coverage for developments related to SRHR in Asia Pacific for dissemination to APA audiences.
  • Strengthen APA internal communications and networking through implementation of APA Engagement Plan, support APA Working Groups, ensure efficient and effective communications for the network and cross-fertilization of knowledge. 
  • Support regional and national advocacy through dissemination of new and existing evidence on efficacy of SRHR interventions; track SRHR legal and policy developments and SRHR violations in the region, as well as comments/responses by key stakeholders;  maximize availability and use of key advocacy-related information and opportunities.
  • Work with the APA ED and APA partners to develop and communicate advocacy messages for specific opportunities.
  • Support the organization of APA activities such as capacity building trainings, knowledge building events, and awareness raising campaigns with APA members, partners and other key stakeholders. 
  • Manage publication and dissemination of research findings or thematic/strategic analysis conducted by APA CO; translate evidence into advocacy related materials for various audiences, this could include drafting social media kits, public statements, blogs and other communications with APA CO. 
  • Lead the design and publishing of APA’s Annual Report
  • Ensure that all internal and external communications follow safety and security protocols and measures.
  • Contribute to the development of APA projects and programmes.

 

Requirements 

  • A university degree in communications, journalism, development, human rights, or global health policy.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communications, preferably in development sector.
  • Strong ability to work independently and to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in social media planning, content development, website management, online campaigns across multiple platforms. 
  • Experience in organization/ coordination of capacity building trainings,  webinars or other events. 
  • Experience with delivering online trainings is an asset.
  • Familiarity with NGO sector, UN structure and donors.
  • Familiarity with SRHR advocacy and feminism in Asia and the Pacific is a strong asset. 
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, both written and spoken is a must; strong research, analysis and editing skills.  
  • Ability to work with a multi-cultural, international team and diverse partners including community-based organizations. 

 

Salary range: 75-000 -85,000 Baht per month (for 5 days/week), dependent upon skills and experience. 

 

Limitations on Authority

  • Subject to delegation by the APA Executive Director and to work within APA policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all private information of APA, its staff and partners.
