Project Manager – Green & Conservation Finance

 

Position: Programme / Project Manager

Location: Bangkok, Thailand

Reports To: Country Manager, with technical guidance from the SBF Technical Advisor

Salary Range: THB 900,000 – 1,140,000 per year (to be reviewed if seniority is increased further)

Level: Manager / Officer Level 1

Contract Period: One year (with possible extension, subject to performance and funding)

 

Key Purpose of the Job 

The Project Manager (Conservation Finance) will lead the coordination and delivery of green and conservation finance initiatives in Thailand. The role oversees a portfolio of innovative finance mechanisms; such as green or sustainability bonds, human–wildlife coexistence finance tools, and biodiversity- or species-linked instruments while working closely with technical advisors, ZSL conservation teams, consultants, and partners.

The position requires strong project leadership, stakeholder management, and the ability to translate conservation objectives into finance-relevant programmes, without requiring the post-holder to personally structure financial instruments.

 

Key Responsibilities

Programme and Project Management

  • Lead day-to-day management of green and conservation finance programmes, ensuring delivery against agreed objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Oversee integrated workplans covering multiple finance instruments and partners.
  • Manage project risks, monitoring frameworks, and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with donor, fiduciary, and safeguarding standards.

 

Green and Conservation Finance Instruments

  • Oversee the development and piloting of green and conservation finance instruments, including:
    • Green, sustainability, and transition bonds
    • Human–wildlife coexistence or impact-linked finance mechanisms
    • Biodiversity- or species-linked certificates (e.g. tiger or habitat certificates)
  • Provide management oversight to technical advisors and consultants leading feasibility studies and instrument design.
  • Ensure financial instruments are clearly linked to measurable conservation, biodiversity, and social outcomes.

 

Stakeholder and Policy Engagement

  • Lead engagement with government agencies, regulators, financial institutions, investors, and implementing partners.
  • Support policy discussions related to sustainable finance and biodiversity finance frameworks.
  • Represent the programme in technical, policy, and partner forums.
  • Facilitate consultations, working groups, and design workshops (if required)

 

Reporting, Learning, and Knowledge

  • Lead preparation of donor reports, management updates, and technical summaries together with technical leads.
  • Capture lessons learned and emerging risks from implementing innovative finance mechanisms.
  • Contribute to organisational learning and external thought leadership in conservation finance.

 

Team and Consultant Management

  • Line-manage project staff as required.
  • Manage short-term consultants and technical advisors across finance, legal, and monitoring areas.
  • Ensure effective coordination with implementing partners, ZSL teams include - conservation, nature-based solutions, and sustainable business finance.

 

Planning and Budget Oversight

  • Oversee project-level budgeting, forecasting, and expenditure tracking in coordination with the Finance team.
  • Contribute to financial planning for green finance activities and funding proposals.
  • Ensure budgets are aligned with ZSL standards and donor requirements.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Master qualification in finance, economics, sustainability, environmental policy, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 8 to 10 years of relevant professional experience in sustainable finance, conservation finance, or programme/project management.
  • Experience managing or overseeing green finance or outcome-based finance initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of how finance mechanisms support conservation, biodiversity, or human–wildlife coexistence outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-stakeholder programmes.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

 

Desirable

  • Experience working in Southeast Asia or in Thailand for similar policy contexts.
  • Familiarity with donor-funded programmes and development partners.
  • Experience in biodiversity finance, impact measurement, or blended finance.
  • Working knowledge of Thai language.
