Communications specialist for Women Peace and Security program in ASEAN – Call for Expressions of Interest

AMPLIFY is a five-year regional initiative of The Asia Foundation and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade that aims to address the problem that women living in ASEAN are disproportionately impacted by armed conflicts and human security threats. At the country level, the program will concentrate efforts on Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar working at three levels of engagement to support Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) policy development; CSO initiatives; and community level peacebuilding. AMPLIFY supports ASEAN’s Regional Plan of Action on WPS and other regional women’s peace initiatives.

TAF is looking for a communication specialist to provide strategic guidance and create communications products in support of the AMPLIFY program. Consultants or firms with professional experience in communications for development, with a focus on WPS, women's empowerment and/or conflict-related issues are highly encouraged to apply. Experience in high-level ASEAN/donor engagement a plus.

Reporting and Supervision:

The consultant (or firm) will report to the Regional Program Manager of AMPLIFY. Ability to be based in Thailand preferred, with remote work possible within the Asia-Pacific region.

Support is required approximately 5 days per month or as required by the team. Contract modality will be deliverable/task based.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on effective communications strategies for different levels of engagement on the Program and WPS – including communications for ASEAN and donor level engagement on WPS. The existing communications strategy also requires targeted communications for CSOs and women in insecure communities across ASEAN countries.
  • Support the design and creation of knowledge products including external and internal reporting following AMPILFY branding and strategy guidelines. Includes design of infographics, one-pagers and presentations on key report findings.
  • Support the design and creation of creative media and social media assets including, for example, short video, photo-essays, blogs and other forms of storytelling.
  • Support communications (in-person) at regional events (capturing photography, video, and production of event materials such as posters/flyers etc.) when required.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of communication efforts, including social media and knowledge products, and adjust strategies based on insights and feedback.
  • Provide support in the form of communications guidance and English language copy-editing for country communications products (Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia).
  • Ensure communications align with safeguarding standards and do not inadvertently place communities or individuals at risk.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working on international development programs, particularly in the areas of women's empowerment, conflict prevention, and/or peacebuilding, as well as familiarity with relevant international frameworks and organizations.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in communications, fine arts, graphic design, journalism, creative-writing, international relations, gender-studies or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating high-quality communication products, including written materials, infographics, photography and videos.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferences

  • Experience in communications for development programs with a focus on Women, Peace, and Security agenda and/ women’s empowerment, conflict prevention, peacebuilding and related international frameworks.
  • Willingness to travel within Southeast Asia.
