JOB DESCRIPTION

 

   

Position: SMART (Spatial Monitoring And Reporting Tool) Patrol Coordinator for Thap Lan National Park
Division: WCS Thailand Program
Reports to:  TLNP Site Manager with a dotted line of responsibility to Conservation Program Manager
Location: Nonthaburi, Thailand
Country Program/Sector Global Conservation Program – Greater Mekong
Position Type: Full time
Expected Travel: Up to 80% within project sites and in Thailand

 

Job Purpose:

SMART (Spatial Monitoring And Reporting Tool) Patrol Coordinator will coordinate with Site Manager, other Site Coordinators, park authorities, and field teams to ensure that Thap Lan National Park is able to maintain and improve its effective law enforcement under the SMART Patrol System.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and assist the WCS’s Thap Lan Site Manager in activity planning to maintain and improve the effectiveness of SMART patrol and other law enforcement teams in Thap Lan National Park.
  • Work closely with park authorities and patrol rangers on the ground to support their activities under the SMART Patrol System, monitor the effectiveness of their patrols to ensure that they are maintained at their maximum capability.
  • Support Thap Lan National Park to maintain their Network-Centric Anti-Poaching System and systematically monitor the effectiveness of this intervention.
  • Assist the Site Manager with the development of periodic reports and any requested materials by partners, donors, or internally by WCS.
  • Provide general support concerning wildlife conservation or relevant tasks assigned or approved by Site and WCS’s Managers.

 

Minimum Requirements and Job Skills:

Education: 

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Forestry, Biology, Environment Sciences, or related fields.

 

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Passionate and good understanding in conservation.
  • Proven experience in a similar role would be desirable
  • Good communication, coordination, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work in remote sites or independently with remote oversight, setting own work priorities to meet all deadlines.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Those who have experience in using some advanced software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth, SMART patrol database and AppSheet are desirable.
  • Experience in field survey and database management for biological research will be added advantages.
  • Good English language skills desirable
  • Driving license holders experience driving over rough terrain or in remote areas desirable.
