Job Description for: Statistician

Work Location: Microbiology Laboratory, Mahosot Hospital, Vientiane, Lao PDR

Supervisory Responsibility: LOMWRU Director & MORU Head of Statistics

Full time post:  12 months (full time)

Lao-Oxford-Mahosot Hospital-Wellcome Trust-Research Unit (LOMWRU) is a Lao-UK project conducting clinical infectious disease research in Laos since 2000. The office is based in the Microbiology Laboratory, Mahosot Hospital, Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR.

Tasks:

1. Apply and/or develop novel statistical methodology for designing and implementing projects and for analysis of large-scale datasets collected in clinical settings
2. To undertake methodological work on issues of design and analysis that can be implemented in LOMWRU ongoing and future trials.
3. Merging and analyzing datasets from different sources in an intelligent way.
4. To perform routine statistical data cleaning/review and preparing data for analysis.
5. Assist and advise investigators on the selection of statistical methods for data analysis.
6. Train junior investigators on basic statistical analysis
7. Produce and maintain statistical analysis plans (including dummy tables and figures) ahead of statistical analyses.
8. Sitting on Data and Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs) as a trial Statistician
9. Perform interim and final analyses as required by investigators
10. Contribute to writing scientific papers
11. Contribute to the collaborative process of the development of study protocols, data validation plans and the design of case report forms.
12. Collaborate with the project teams in the planning and implementation of data quality assurance plans.
13. Participate to MORU Statistics training courses as needed
14. To undertake any other tasks requested by the LOMWRU Director or the MORU Head of Statistics from time to time.

Essential Criteria

• Master’s degree in Statistics/biostatistics (or other relevant field)
• Experience with clinical trials design and analysis
• Demonstrable evidence of competence in statistics / applied to biomedical research
• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
• Good working knowledge of statistical software packages (STATA or R.)
