Doctors without Borders (Thailand) Co. Ltd, is working with national and international partner organizations in the field of healthcare related support activities in Mae Hong Son province as well as the Southern provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla since 2017. DWBT is neutral, impartial, and solely medical in nature with no religious, political, or human rights objectives.

On the Thai- Myanmar border, particularly in Mae Hong Son province, there are displaced people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflicts and are struggling with their mental health. Therefore, it is crucial to address the mental health needs and provide effective interventions for the internally displaced people.


Main Purposes

Defining, coordinating, and monitoring all mental health related activities in the project area including management of staff, ensuring the quality of care, and analysing statistics and reports, according to DWBT and other validated protocols in order to provide the most appropriate support for patients and the clients.


Main Responsibilities

  • In close collaboration and communication with the MH referent at HQ, Medical coordination, PMR, and other medical department identifying the needs of MH support in the target population and participating in the definition, planning, organization, and update of the appropriate DWBT’s MH strategy and the activities and its budget.  Monitoring and evaluating MH support activities.
  • Reviewing and developing the technical materials, tools, guidelines, and documents, and coordinating and ensuring the implementation of all Mental Health standard protocols and procedures set by DWBT in order to provide the most appropriate treatment for patients.
  • Planning and supervising, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, briefing/debriefing, evaluation, potential detection, development and internal communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required.
  • Providing and leading in building the capacity of staff under his/her supervision on technical knowledge and skills on MH and related topics including through weekly supervision.
  • Coordinating and ensuring that Mental Health activities (in and outside health facilities), with the clients are performed with regular follow-up in order to provide the most appropriate treatment for clients with psychosocial problems.
  • Ensuring in close collaboration with medical department, that MH department participates in counselling when needed.
  • Participating in monthly reports according to guidelines (SitRep, statistical report, etc.) and reporting problematic situations and cases with the Medical Coordinator to help with decision making and problem resolution.
  • Ensuring that MH patients coming to the DWBT supported facilities receive proper treatment including psychotropic medication and psychosocial support either within an DWBT program or thru referral to an appropriate resource.


Context Specific Responsibilities

  • Supervision and management of directly reporting staff (3 MH Supervisors and 5 incentivized social workers/Counsellor Educators) mainly in remote mode.
  • Maintaining appropriate and clear communication and collaboration with other project team members and partners.
  • Ensuring treatment plan for patient is based on multidisciplinary approach including clear internal and external referral system for psychiatric patients.
  • Developing, reviewing, and adapting technical, tools, guidelines and IEC materials according to the needs and context.
  • Plan and conduct trainings on PFA, psychoeducation, self-care, stress-coping, understanding mental health trauma, basic counseling, etc.  across the areas of intervention for the staffs of local partner.
  • When feasible, conducting onsite visits (with prior validation). Provision of direct patient care as needed.
  • Ensuring the MH data are secured and HMIS is updated with the support of technical references.
  • Identifying and proposing MH indicators in order to monitor and follow up mental health activities and using concrete tools to measure those activities.
  • Participate in the monthly medical meeting between DWBT and partners.
  • Ensure implementation of the MH Strategy for 2024.


  1. Requirements





  • Degree/master in psychology or social work or MD degree with specialization in psychiatry.


  • Essential working experience of at least two years as psychologist or other similar profession in managing complex mental health interventions and largely diverse teams.
  • Working with the displaced population highly desired.


  • Mission Language (English) essential; Myanmar or Thai language mandatory.

Thai nationals and foreigners who have a permanent residence in Thailand.


HR & Benefits:

  • Salary: 58,107 Baht gross per month and 13th Month Salary
  • Housing Allowance (As per HR policy for relocated staff)
