NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTE

INVITATION TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL

Data-Driven Reforms for Democracy

SUMMARY

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) invites your organization to submit a proposal for a project focused on democratic and electoral reform and the role of civil society in Thailand to promote public dialogue on electoral reform in advance of the 2023 election.  NDI will provide technical assistance to interested civil society organizations (CSOs), to create advocacy and communication strategies and advocacy activities based on FGR findings; financial support will be provided to select CSOs to apply these strategies to ongoing advocacy on democratic reform issues.

BACKGROUND

In Thailand, civil society, the political opposition, protest movements, and other reform constituencies continue to push for democratic change. As debates around the future of democracy in the country take place ahead of the 2023 election, there is a need for nuanced, high-quality data on citizen preferences to inform the policy debate on key issues such as democratic and electoral reform. NDI in conjunction with King Prajadhipok’s Institute, conducted a Focus Group Research (FGR) to collect citizen preferences regarding the enhancement of the democratic process in Thailand. NDI is seeking to support local CSOs in their efforts to conduct advocacy on democratic reforms.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

NDI will provide small grants to three to four CSOs to implement evidence-based strategies based on FGR findings in advocacy campaigns, In addition, NDI will provide technical training to CSOs in their ongoing campaigns. NDI will award small grants for up to 10,000 USD each to selected CSOs to support them in conducting advocacy activities.
