Background/IRC Summary:  The International Rescue Committee (IRC) Thailand country program was established in 1976 to assist refugees from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and currently assists refugees and migrants from Burma. IRC Thailand operates as one of the largest and programmatically diverse humanitarian organizations providing essential services to displaced populations in Thailand. Assistance programs encompass health, education, institutional capacity building, gender-based violence prevention, water and sanitation, income generation, advocacy, protection, legal assistance, and resettlement program.

 

Job Overview/Summary:

  • The driver is assigned to drive for IRC programs in Kanchnaburi (mainlyBan Don Yang camp ) area, but however he is entitle to drive outside the assigned area under IRC programs
  •  Responsible of the security for the person and materials in the car up to destination
  • Respect of the Thai traffic rules, the safety orders, the travel schedules and IRC policies
  • Follows the services of the cars and report all incident and  information to Lead Driver and  Program officer

 

Job - Specific:

  • Each morning perform daily security check-up on the vehicle before leaving from the assignment (e.g. water in the radiator, engine oil, fuel, tire pressure, battery)
  • Before departure in the morning or before end of the day wash the car completely (from out-side, inside and the body under the car)
  • Inform Lead driver or Operation officer of any mechanical problem with the vehicle
  • Report if any service is needed or is already done to Lead driver or operation officer and write to the log sheet (with details)
  • Upkeep the log sheet for fuel and keep the copy for maintenance parts in the each car’s file.
  • Check that the tool kit and Emergency box are available in the vehicles before leaving
  • Transport only IRC staffs, patients and patients-relatives in the vehicle
  • Provide the transportation of the patient and patient relative between the camp and hospital
  • Pick up the patient and the medicine after the patient is discharge and inform to MRO before bring them back to TH camp
  • Ensure the paper works are complete for Thai authorities to carry persons or goods.
  • Inform the district officer of the each patient and patient’s relative movement (in case of emergency inform maximum 24 hours later)
  • Carry only the materiel necessary for the activities of IRC staff
  • Ensure proper loading and unloading, tying down supplies when needed
  • Incase if you got requested from another NGO or stranger to transport somebody or something have to inform and get approval from IRC Field Coordinator before
  • Respect always the speed of 80 km/hour or adapt speed to condition of the roads
  • Respect the environment mainly the village and the children on the way to the camp
  • Inform operation officer  incase of accident with the vehicle immediately
  • Follow the guidelines (available in the vehicle) when accident occurs
  • In case of any problem inform by phone, supply chain officer ASAP Be always in the vicinity of the vehicle in the camp and in the office
  • Safeguard the vehicles in every possible way
  • Assist the expatriate staffs with translation when requested (specially at the check point, hospital, with the patient)
  • Ensure in end of the day the car is always filled up with fuel and particularly before the Weekend
  • Be always aware about your responsibility, way and the time that you spending (no private business with/in IRC car without approval)

 

              Others

  • Purchases small supplies (buy material…) when requested
  • Inform operation officer or Medical Officer(doctor) of any medical information received consider the patient
  • Keep confidential (professional secret) any medical information aware of

Job Requirements:

  • At least certificate of Primary education(M.3) with official driving license
  • At least 3 years experience in off road driving
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance
