Vacancy Announcement

 

Handicap International that runs its program under the operating name Humanity & Inclusion (HI) seeks for a Driver for its Thailand Site in Mae Sot, under Myanmar-Thailand Regional program.

Closing date: August 17, 2018

Background: HI is an independent and impartial aid and development organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. We work alongside disabled and vulnerable people to help meet their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. HI implements 4 projects in Thailand alongside Thai-Burma border: a) Risk Education in 9 camps, b) Disability and Social Inclusion in 5 camps, c) Growing Together and d) Rehabilitation project in 5 camps as well. All projects implemented alongside Thailand-Burmese border are enrooted into the Myanmar & Thailand Regional Program Strategy for the period 2018-2020.

All projects are managed by designated manager coached by the Operational Manager, Site Administrator and Country Manager in Thailand. Thailand mission is supported by the Regional team in Yangon for all issues related to logistic, administration, finance and accountancy as well as by the South East Asia Regional Logistics Advisor who make regular visits to Thai site.

 

Main objective of the Driver position: Under direct supervision of Based Logistic Officer and indirect supervision of Logistics Manager in Mae Sot, the driver ensures the following tasks;

 

Responsibility 1: Drive safely HI staff & visitors and transport of goods.

Aim: To provide driving service to support the programme's needs.

Benchmarks: rate of driving service satisfaction, number of incident/accident reported

   Activities:

  • Drive the assigned vehicle for official purposes in a safe, courteous and punctual manner, with respect of speed limit,
  • Adhere and respect strictly to HI transport & security rules and compliance with Thailand Road Traffic Law,
  • Check before any departure that you have all documents in order for the vehicle (photocopy of the insurance, Road license, registration, mission order when required...),
  • Before starting its cars, check all levels, air pressure, general condition of the car, cleanliness,
  • Ensure the assigned vehicles are not utilised to transport people who are either not employed by and/or authorised to travel in that vehicle, uniform personnel and weapon are forbidden,
  • Ensure the use, presence and good conditions of safety equipment’s (car seat belts, fire extinguisher, first aid kit…),
  • Ensures all passengers wear a seatbelt before moving the vehicle and remind safety rules if needed,
  • Maintain/record the vehicle log book for each single car movement and ensure to get signature of passenger responsible to endorse the route/mileage undertaken,
  • Report immediately to the logistics officer any incident and accident which involve HI cars’,
  • Load and unload vehicles goods and ensure to keep it in good conditions,
  • Ensure the security of all passenger’s personal baggage and belongings. Any items left in the vehicle by passengers are to be returned at the earliest opportunity to them in person or delivered to the nearest HI office.

 

Responsibility 2: Ensure vehicles small maintenance (cars and motorbikes)

Aim: To ensure smooth running of all HI’s vehicles.

Benchmarks: rate of driving service satisfaction, number of incident/accident reported

   Activities:

  • Maintain fuel records in accordance with HI transport regulations, always keep at least half tank,
  • Ensure that fuel tank is fully refilled prior to the end of working day,
  • Bring the car on the ramp once a week (on Friday or Saturday if possible), process the Weekly check-up and fill the related form,
  • Maintain the vehicles in clean, tidy and roadworthy conditions,
  • Bring the car to the car wash once a month, once a week during rainy season,
  • Before ending your day, check general cleanliness. Make sure that the windows of the car are closed, light are off,
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of the vehicles (check tyre pressure …),
  • Report immediately every problem; update the logbook with a note.

 

PROFILE REQUIRED:

  • At least Secondary school level and valid driving license.
  • 2 years’ work experience as driver, and experience driving in mountainous areas or to temporary shelters in Mae Hong Son, Tak, Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi Province.
  • Capacity to drive 4WD vehicle
  • Knowledge and aware of driving rules and regulations and skills in basic vehicle repair.
  • Working experience in refugee context is an added value.
  • Knowledge on vehicle maintenance, Karen or Burmese language will be an advantage.
  • Good decision making, Good team player, and able to work under pressure with multicultural environment.

 

JOB CONDITIONS

  • Remuneration: starting from 12,644 Baht depending on a candidate background and experiences. Attractive package with accommodation and travelling allowance.
  • We offer also: nice working environment; 20 days of annual leave with 15 days of public holidays, health, social and life insurance, social security fund, phone-card credit, bonus at the end of a year (13th salary); seniority of 2% after the 1st year of employment, training possibilities.
  • Start preferably: 1 September, 2018 with duration 12 months renewable.
