Call for Applications: Liaison Officer (Re-announcement)

Position: Liaison Officer

Duration of contract: 1 year with minimum 3 months to maximum 6 months’ probation period. The contract will be renewed annually subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds

Report to: Deputy Secretary General (DSG) and President of Network of Indigenous Peoples in Thailand (NIPT)

Duty Station: NIPT office in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Background: AIPP is a regional organization founded in 1992 as a platform for solidarity and cooperation among indigenous peoples in Asia. It actively promotes and defends indigenous peoples’ rights and human rights, sustainable development and management of resources, as well as environment protection.  For detail visit www.aippnet.org

Roles and Responsibilities of Liaison Officer:

  • Ensure regular communication between AIPP Secretariat and its member-organizations and networks from Thailand as well as among the member-organizations and networks through the designated focal persons, including Indigenous Media Network (IMN), Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Defenders (IPHRDs) and youth networks;
  • Shall be responsible for the coordination and facilitation of country or sub-country level campaign and advocacy work on common issues and agenda identified by member-organizations and networks, and support NIPT or the responsible organization in the conduct of the activity;
  • Shall be responsible for facilitating and coordinating common issues and agenda of member-organizations and networks with the concerned Secretariat staff of AIPP for regional and global advocacy work, including participation of representatives in meetings;
  • Ensure the effective use of the IMN in communication advocacy regarding common issues and agenda of member-organizations and networks in Thailand;
  • Facilitate or support communication between the concerned staff of AIPP Secretariat with the IPHRD network and or concerned organizations/individuals regarding cases of human rights violations, including for campaign and advocacy as appropriate;
  • Liaise with project partners in Thailand regarding timely submission of project reports and proposals;
  • Be responsible for the coordination of meetings of member-organizations and networks at least once in a year, or as agreed upon, and submit country report, including to AIPP Secretariat, EC representatives and members;
  • Develop monthly and annual work plans in consultation with AIPP and its members in Thailand
  • Submit bi-annual and Annual activity report to the AIPP Secretariat, NIPT President/Director and the focal persons of AIPP members;
  • Assist AIPP member-organizations from Thailand in fund raising, including project designing and proposal writing;
  • Support AIPP member-organizations and networks in Thailand in preparing advocacy materials including statements, petitions, and urgent appeals, etc.; and
  • Translate and disseminate relevant documents from English to Thai and vice versa
  • Any other tasks assigned by the DSG of AIPP.

Requirements

  • Be an indigenous peoples from Thailand
  • Hold at least a Bachelor Degree
  • At least 2 years of experience in the related field
  • Fluent in both Thai and English (Speaking, listening, reading and writing) with translation skills
  • Proficiency in in using  Microsoft office applications
  • Demonstrate abilities in leadership and initiatives
  • Have dedication and commitment to work full time to provide supports required by AIPP member-organizations and networks from Thailand
  • Demonstrate positive attitude to work with Indigenous peoples in Thailand
  • Knowledgeable about the situation and movement of Indigenous Peoples in Thailand

Salary shall be based on the salary criteria approved by the Executive Council of AIPP and as agreed by member-organizations.
