Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently recruiting a new Regional Coordinator. This is an exciting, yet demanding position, for a woman from the region to lead a dedicated Secretariat of 20 women and support a powerful network of women’s rights organisations, movements and activists across the region.

The Regional Coordinator is an ex-officio member of APWLD’s governance bodies and acts as the Executive Officer. She provides leadership and coordination of the Secretariat, works with APWLD membership to create strategic plans and programme content, acts as a spokesperson for APWLD in multiple advocacy spaces, coordinates APWLD’s fundraising and liaises with donors and ensures APWLD continues to be accountable and lead by its members through effective governance and inclusive programming.

In the past six years APWLD has been steadily growing in terms of its power, size, resources and civil society leadership. It has strong funding support, engaged and committed membership and skilful, dedicated staff. The Regional Coordinator will be expected to maintain the impact APWLD has achieved and grow the power and influence of its membership.

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights and Development Justice in Asia Pacific;
2. At least 8 years experience with increasing levels of leadership within a feminist or civil society movement;
3. Demonstrated experience in managing governance of a membership based organisation;
4. Demonstrated experience in managing staff from diverse backgrounds with diverse levels of experience;
5. Financial literacy and successful background in raising and managing funds;
6. Capacity to produce progressive, analytical work on complex, interconnected, structural barriers to women’s human rights in the Asia Pacific region (both research and quick responses);
7. Experience in advocacy and presenting in international and regional arena;
8. Demonstrated communications experience to support mainstream and social media, including through the production of opinion pieces and press statements;
9. Good interpersonal skills, with ability to network and liaise in a multi-cultural environment and
10. To develop strong professional relationships with members, allies and other actors.

Key tasks specified in APWLD’s constitution:

1. Manages the operations of the Secretariat and supervises the work of the Secretariat staff;
2. Acts as spokesperson of the APWLD and represents the organisation in international and regional formations, conferences and other fora;
3. Ensures the preparation of the APWLD work plans, budget and reports for the review and approval of the Programme and Management Committee and the Regional Council;
4. Primarily responsible for fundraising, including maintaining close links with donors;
5. Sits as an ex-officio member in the Regional Council and Programme and Management Committee;
6. Keeps the Programme and Management Committee and the Regional Council informed of important developments concerning the organisation; and
7. Performs other functions that may be assigned by the Programme and Management Committee and Regional Council.
8. Assists in preparing for Regional Council and Programme and Management Committee meetings;

Remuneration

Salary range commences at USD 2700 per month. Other benefits include health, accident and travel insurance; contributions to employment pension fund; housing and relocation allowances for staff required to re-locate to Chiang Mai.

The contract is for three years, with a probationary period of four months.
