Mission: Buchaholic is a line of kombucha teas celebrating Thai flavors and sustainable community development in Northern Thailand. We source our teas directly from small-scale farmers in northern Thailand, and re-invest profits back into education within these regions. 

 

Job Title: Development Officer

Job Profile

Buchaholic is seeking a Development Officer (DO) with experience in coordinating and fieldwork. For the first 3-6 months, the DO will work on a part-time basis to develop the business and philanthropic aspects of Buchaholic:

  • On the business side, the DO will play a key role in setting up our supply chain of tea from small-scale farmers in North Thailand; and
  • On the philanthropic side, the DO will work with schools and a local foundation to help Buchaholic invest its profits in improving education in North Thailand.

The DO will work closely with both of Buchaholic’s Co-founders. As the business grows, the DO position will advance to a more full-time position. This position can be done remotely, with occasional meetings with the Co-founder, and occasional trips to Chiang Rai Province. This position is for Thai nationals only.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Travel with the Co-founder on field visits to communities where Buchaholic works with farmers and support local schools.
  • Meet with our partner tea farmers in north Thailand to ensure the smooth running of tea harvesting, picking and processing for Buchaholic Teas.
  • Meet with principals of schools we support to assess education needs within each school, so that Buchaholic can reinvest profits in improving education in its partner communities.
  • Coordinate with a local Thai foundation so that Buchaholic can efficiently support education needs of schools in its partner communities.
  • Effectively communicate the mission, vision and operations of Buchaholic to tea farmers and educators in partner communities.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate between tea farmers and the Co-founder as needed.
  • Coordinate with principals and the Co-founder as needed.
  • Assist the Co-founder to coordinate shipping tea from Thailand to the United States for kombucha production.
  • As the SRE develops assist the Co-founder in identifying new tea-farming communities to partner with.

 

Competencies

Qualifications / Experience

  • Experienced in communicating and coordinating between multiple parties across cultures and languages.
  • Previous experience working with a non-profit preferred.

Skills

  • Able to communicate clearly in both Thai and English.
  • Able to think strategically, analyse critically, and to translate ideas and insights into action through coherent and viable plans.
  • Self-motivated and able to come up with solutions and ideas without being prompted beforehand.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Word and Excel, especially with tracking data in spreadsheets.

Attributes

  • Able to travel by car throughout Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son province for up to four days.
  • Friendly and approachable, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and with a team.
  • Organised, resourceful and able to prioritize new tasks as they arise.
  • Able to adapt to new roles and responsibilities as the business develops.
