Freeland is a Bangkok-based frontline organization that works with partners around the world to end wildlife and human trafficking. Our dedicated teams of law enforcement, development, and communications specialists transform behavior and empower people. We also promote good governance and capacity building to protect vulnerable people and endangered species from the snares of organized crime and corruption.
Freeland is looking to hire a dynamic full-time Field Biologist. The successful candidate will be required to:
Location. Based in the field (70%) and 30% Bangkok (Freeland office)
Directly reports to: Program Director, Freeland
Qualifications
- Thai National
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, natural resource management, or relevant field science
- Preferable, at least 1 years experience (but not essential)
- Driving licence
Other attributes
- English language beneficial
- Skills in relevant data analysis software
- Knowledge of wildlife conservation issues in Thailand
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Report writing
Role and responsibilities
Overall role and responsibility
- Implementing field research projects on time following work plan
- Act as an expert focal point for research projects, such as wildlife surveys, during interactions with the DNP
- Represent Freeland wildlife research projects in meetings
- Assist and support all Freeland activities implemented under Freeland’s Surviving Together Program in and around the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex - DPY-KYFC, which include;
- Park management support,
- Wildlife monitoring,
- Community outreach, and
- Training support.
Specific tasks include;
- Regularly meet with DP-KY National Park Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and relevant DNP officers about wildlife surveys
- Help plan and participate in wildlife surveys
- Support GIS and SMART technical support and training for focal sites in the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex (DP-KY)
- Process survey data, subsequent data analysis and report writing.
- Act as a coordinator concerning questions and suggestions from partners on the project which should be relayed back to Bangkok for consideration and response.
- Help during training activities as required.
- Other tasks as directed by supervisor.
