SOCIAL WORK OFFICER

CDE Thailand

 

 

  1. Background

The Education Program of La Chaine de l’Espoir (CDE) in Thailand initially targeted children from the slums of Bangkok. CDE has progressively refocused its activity in Buriram Province in order to prevent migration from rural to urban areas by providing support in access to education. Buriram province is one of the poorest region of Thailand and many indebted families are not able to provide for their basic needs having a negative impact on the education of their children. This program relies on a solid network of teachers to foster the education of disadvantaged children and is implemented in partnership with House of Hope Thai Foundation to protect the most vulnerable children and give them opportunities for a better future.

 

Main objectives of the program:

  • To promote access to quality education for disadvantaged children
  • To improve school health & nutrition activities
  • To protect most vulnerable children and provide them with a safe and healthy environment

 

 

  1. Scope of the position

Under the Education Program conducted by la Chaine de l’Espoir in Thailand, the social work officer is in charge of developing and ensuring the provision of social support and case management services with vulnerable families and to develop social support mechanisms at school and community level.

He / she is also responsible for the reinforcement of capacities of teachers, CDE team and other relevant stakeholders in identifying children at-risk and providing social support or ensuring referral to appropriate services/organizations.

The social work officer works closely with local implementing partners and participate actively in child protection-related activities and meetings to ensure that the program goals are achieved and are in line with policies and laws in force.

  • N+2 : Field-coordinator Thailand: Vincent PROSPER
  • N +1: CDE Project Manager: La-Ong THONGKLOM

 

  1. Main responsibilities & specific duties
  • Assist the program manager in developing and implementing the new strategy of CDE tailored support in Thailand:
  • Ensure capacity development of local stakeholders:
  • Guide and support schools and local stakeholders in:
  • Ensure regular reporting (written & oral) of activities
  • Identify and develop partnerships with relevant local stakeholders (schools, health centers, social services, Thai foundations etc.) in consultation with the Program Manager and CDE field-coordinator
  • In coordination with the Admin and Sponsorship officer, develop communication strategy and tools towards sponsors
  • Conduct any other related activities as deemed necessary by the CDE field-coordinator and Program Manager

 

  1. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Graduated (at least Bachelor Degree) in the field of social work / educational activity coordination or any related technical field

Additional training / experience in psychosocial support is a plus

  • Strong knowledge in Child Protection and Child´s rights
  • At least 2 years work experience within a similar context is highly desirable
  • Ability and skills to conduct child friendly interviews and child protection needs assessments
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to changing programme priorities and emergency priorities that may arise
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in capacity building and animating/organizing meetings
  • Ability to work autonomously, to think strategically and to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Committed to social work/child welfare, dedication for non-profit work, communication and human relations skills, teamwork ability, flexibility on working hours, tolerance & human values, highly motivated, positive energy & spirit

 

Language skills: Fluent Thai (spoken and written) and English proficient in speaking, understanding and reading. English writing is an asset.

 

  1. Conditions

Salary:  To be defined based on experience, qualifications and CDE salary scale

Duration: one year contract (renewable) with a three-month trial period

Location: Nang Rong district, Buriram Province with frequent field visits
