SCHOOL PROJECT OFFICER
CDE Thailand
- Background
The Education Program of La Chaine de l’Espoir (CDE) in Thailand initially targeted children from the slums of Bangkok. CDE has progressively refocused its activity in Buriram Province in order to prevent migration from rural to urban areas by providing support in access to education. Buriram province is one of the poorest region of Thailand and many indebted families are not able to provide for their basic needs having a negative impact on the education of their children. This program relies on a solid network of teachers to foster the education of disadvantaged children and is implemented in partnership with House of Hope Thai Foundation to protect the most vulnerable children and give them opportunities for a better future.
Main objectives of the program:
- To promote access to quality education for disadvantaged children
- To improve school health & nutrition activities
- To protect most vulnerable children and provide them with a safe and healthy environment
- Scope of the position
Under the Education Program conducted by la Chaine de l’Espoir (CDE) in Thailand, the School Project Officer is in charge of assisting the CDE Program Manager in the preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of education and school health related projects as well as the reinforcement of capacities of the teachers and relevant stakeholders involved in the implementation of school projects.

- Main responsibilities & specific duties
3.1. School Projects development & implementation
- Analyze Education & School Health policies and programs at the national and local level and conduct surveys and needs assessment regarding Buriram province.
- Contribute to the drafting and implementation of school project proposals in consultation with the Program Manager and the field-coordinator, including the validation of the impact of the project, its consistency, coverage, efficiency and effectiveness, long-term viability and feasibility. Cross-cutting issues (gender, HIV-AIDS, domestic violence, environment, etc) must be taken into account.
- In coordination with the Program Manager, ensure that school project progress is effectively monitored through the regular collection and analysis of key indicators and ensure that processes and results are proper documented
- Reinforce capacities of teachers by providing training and coaching in the development of a participatory approach in teaching processes
3.2. Budget management
- Assist the Program Manager and the field-coordinator in ensuring accounting, financial follow-up and forecast of the school project’s budget
3.3. Networking, partnership & coordination
- Under the supervision and leadership of the Program Manager, initiate, develop and strengthen relationships and collaborations with partners (Kanlayanamit Teachers Group ; House of Hope Foundation…) and every stakeholders involved in implementation of school projects
- Under the supervision and leadership of the Program Manager, contribute to coordinate closely with officials and public stakeholders of the Health and Education sectors
3.4. Reporting & Communication
- Internal reporting & communication :
- Exchange continuously with the Program Manager and the field-coordinator on the implementation of the school projects and inform systematically the line manager on difficulties encountered and perspectives of action
- Produce periodic reports and roadmaps - on a monthly and annual basis - on school project activities
- coordinate with social work officer on individual cases identified by the school projects for personalized support
- Develop external communication tools in coordination with the field-coordinator and the Admin ans Sponsorship officer to promote the development of school projects and provide information on the progress of projects to sponsors, partners and relevant stakeholders
3.5. Others
- Undertake any other task as deemed necessary by the Program Manager and the field-coordinator
- QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduated (at least Bachelor Degree in the field of social work and/or education and/or school health is essential
Additional training or experience in child protection sector is a plus
- At least 2 years work experience within a similar context is highly desirable
- Experience in teaching with the children and understand physical and psychosocial aspects of child development
- Good knowledge on various art skills
- Experience and knowledge in capacity building and animating/organizing meetings
- Ability and skills to conduct child friendly interviews and child protection needs assessments
- Ability to work autonomously, to think strategically and to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
- Good interpersonal skills
- Be able to work calmly and efficiently to tight deadlines
- Committed to social work/child welfare, dedication for non-profit work, communication and human relations skills, teamwork ability, flexibility on working hours, tolerance & human values, highly motivated, positive energy & spirit
Language skills:
- Fluent Thai(spoken and written) and English proficient speaking are essential.
- English writing skills is a plus.
- Conditions
Location: Nang Rong district, Buriram Province with frequent home visits
Salary: To be defined based on experience, qualifications and CDE salary scale
Duration: one year contract (renewable) with a three-month trial period
