Campaign Coordinator

Purpose of the role: To develop and implement the campaigns strategy and activities related to the protection of Human Rights Defenders (HRD), the protection of Freedom of Expression (FoE), and the prevention of torture, cruel and inhuman treatment and punishment, and ensure maximum impact and alignment with AI global strategies Main responsibilities The role involves, but is not limited to, the following functions:

1. Working with the Campaigns team to develop and implement the campaign strategy in line with the national context and AI movement and available resources

2. Coordinating the planned activities with other members of the Campaign team and within the organization, activists, and external stakeholders as appropriate

3. Identifying opportunities for maximizing campaign reach and impact, in cooperation with Head of Campaigns and the wider team

4. Establishing and maintaining relationships with relevant actors and stakeholders

5. Monitoring and following-up on human rights development and individual cases in Thailand through desk research, communicating with relevant actors, attending relevant meetings and seminars as appropriate

6. Prepare an appropriate analysis and report of the social and political context for campaigning purposes

7. Supporting the Head of Campaigns in lobbying relevant actors/institutions for the campaigns’ goals as appropriate

8. Working with the Youth Activism Officer in order to develop effective strategies and tactics for mobilizing activists of the Movement

9. Monitoring and evaluating Campaigns in cooperation with the wider team by reporting on and analyzing progress and overall impact, as well as challenges and difficulties faced.

10. Ensuring that lessons learned are then implemented

11. Supporting the Head of Campaigns in coordination with AI International Secretariat concerning campaigning and researching on HRD, FoE and anti-torture and other related issues

12. Monitoring and optimizing the allocated resources: volunteers/activists, campaign materials and budget

13. Contributing to the Campaign team’s collaboration with the organization’s fundraising and membership teams in order to expand the movement’s supporters as appropriate Essential Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree in the field related to human rights, international law, international relations, social sciences, development studies

Experience: At least three-year professional experience in a similar role or relevant to the assignment. Preferably in a regional or international NGO.

Technical knowledge:

1. Good knowledge of campaigning tools and methodologies and knowledge of project management for human rights campaigning at national and international level

2. Good knowledge of traditional and digital communication techniques for campaigning

3. Excellent knowledge of human rights issues related to freedom of expression, assembly and association, protection for human rights defenders

Organizational competencies:

1. Result-oriented approach: to achieve performance objectives and realize benefits for the organization by using creativity, innovation and sound budget management

2. Building and maintaining relationships: ability to develop collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders from all communities and backgrounds

3. Project Management: developing and managing clearly defined work plans and identify objectives, results and success indicators in light of organizational strategies and of constraints, opportunities and resources

4. Commitment to Amnesty International’s mission and principles

5. Ability to travel within and outside Thailand

6. Ability to work in irregular hours as appropriate

Skills:

- Good judgement to assess the most effective means to achieve campaign goals

- Excellent intra-personal skills to coordinate with a broad range of people at different levels with discretion

- Proven to manage workload effectively, including managing competing demands, maintain high levels of accuracy, and ensure smooth coordination of activities across diverse entities

- Proven research experience

- Strong team player

- Self-motivated with ability to work autonomously

- Good command of Thai and English, both verbally and in writing Main relationships

Reports to: Head of Campaigns.

Supervise roles: Volunteers and/or interns

Other relevant relationships: Support the Section Director in cultivating and managing partnerships and effective communication with civil society actors, institutions, media, right-holders, Amnesty International staff and activists and other relevant stakeholders.
