Background/IRC Summary:

The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces.
Job Overview/Summary
The Nurse will have primary responsibility for monitoring the quality of nursing care provided in the camps. Nurse will be required to assess refugee medic and nurse for nursing skills on a regular basis to ensure quality of care and she/he will also be required to provide on the job training to staff to develop nursing skills and knowledge camp base health staff in all clinics in Um Piem and Nu Poe camps. The nurse will also play a primary role in assisting the medic and nurse with the management of emergency referrals to district hospitals from both camps.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide technical supervision, focusing on nursing skills and procedures for medics and clinical staffs. Provide admin and logistic support to clinical (IPD/OPD) and nurses in both camps such as medical equipment, nurse training material and supply.
- Regularly mentoring and monitoring nurses by developing supervisory checklists for monitoring of nursing skills and practices on a regular basis
- Conduct regular monitoring visits to camp clinics to review the quality of nursing care services and in coordination with the clinical team and Hospital Director to develop a plan for continuous on the job training and education to improve nursing practices of refugee health staff.
- Provide technical advice and monitor infection control measures in camp clinics: OPD, IPD, TB room, other special clinics, pharmacy, CDC centre and dressing rooms.
- Ensure that TB DOTS system is well maintained and that all new cases, compliance with treatment and cure rate is obtained and documented for every TB case detected in Um Piem and Nu Poe Camps.
- Assist the Clinical Managers and Health Officer as needed with the management of chronic patients including their referral to district hospitals for follow up where needed.
- Assist the Clinical Managers, Health Officer, Referral Officer and EMR staffs in the management of referrals to Thai hospitals (Um Phang, Phop Phra, Mae Sot and Chiang Mai) This would include regular visits to the Um Phang hospital to check on patients admitted to IPD and also follow up on discharged patients from Hospitals back to camps
- Regular report to Clinical Manager about the patients admitted in Thai hospitals.
- Assist the Clinical Managers in prevention, surveillance and response to communicable disease outbreaks
- Assist the Clinical Manager to prepare the weekly, monthly and quarterly medical reports
- Attend the meetings with Thai government units, NGOs and Partners
- File and manage supporting documents as indicated in the monitoring framework
- Other assignment as require from health team
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor degree in Nursing, Science or Diploma in Midwifery, Nursing certification (RN)
Work Experience:
- At least 3 years’ experience of Nurse or Midwifery in hospital or clinical / primary care setting.
- Clinical Nursing experience in a Provincial or District Hospital or Experience working with refugees, migrants or Hill tribe populations in Thailand or Community health experience/ experience working with rural communities in Thailand
- Teaching/ training experience
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Strong organizational skills, good at multi-tasking, flexible. Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
- Basic computer literacy such as knowledge in the use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Professional demeanours and Good organizational skills
Language Skills: Fluency in English and Karen. Thai or Burmese is a plus.

Working Environment: The position will be based in Umphang District, Tak Province with frequent and regular travel to two temporary shelters in Tak.
