Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

 

 

Context:

Under the direct supervision of the Project Assistants and overall supervision of the Project Manager, the successful candidate will contribute to planning and implementation of the Projects: (1) “Strengthening Border Management and Intelligence Capacity of Thai Government Officials, Phase III” funded by the Government of Canada, under the thematic area of Immigration and Border Management (IBM), and (2) “Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR)” funded by the Bali Process, under the thematic area of Migrant Assistance, both in the IOM Thailand Country Office.

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

 

The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

 

IBM:

 

  1. Contribute to the successful development of capacity building activities for law enforcement authorities by supporting project staffs to review and update existing training materials.

 

  1. Assist Project Assistant in organizing capacity building trainings and other project activities, get involved from pre-, post- and during the trainings’ organization which include, but not limited to, drafting letter of invitations; liaise with training venues, trainers, government counterparts; translating and printing training materials; and other tasks assigned by the Project Manager and Project Assistant.

 

  1. Assist project staffs in preparing for and attending meetings and conferences, including preparation of presentations, drafting of meeting notes, taking minutes, preparation of agenda and logistics.

 

  1. Assist in researching and compiling information on Thailand’s national law, policy and practice and other information related to immigration and border management issues as requested by project staffs and staff of IBM projects implemented in other IOM country offices.

 

  1. Liaise with in-house operational support (Procurement, Finance, Operations, and HR units) in term of administrative and financial issues e.g. Travel Authorization, Purchase Requisition, Payment Request, etc.

 

  1. In coordination with the project staffs, assist in editing, drafting correspondence (in English and Thai) to government counterparts and provide translation of documents and other communications/materials as required.

 

  1. Support to the unit reporting through drafting and editing reports for capacity building events and other project activities, interim donor reports, assisting to review evaluations, producing/updating briefing notes, and project factsheets.

 

AVRR:

  1. Provide administrative support in the implementation project, including preparing AVRR forms and letters to implementing partners, entering information into the AVRR database (communication, departures, approval, applicants, expenses, etc.), preparing cash advances and service fees and updating contact lists.

 

  1. Coordinate with the IOM Thailand Operations Unit regarding flight bookings.

 

  1. Prepare statistics on returns.

 

  1. Support to the unit reporting through drafting and editing donor reports, assisting to review evaluations and producing and updating communications materials.

 

  1. Perform such other duties as may be required.

 

 

Eligibility and Selection

 

The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 19 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Thai national
  • Recently graduated or University Degree in international relations, political sciences, social sciences or relevant field
  • 1-2 years of experience in leading or assisting in organization of training events is desirable but not strictly required. 
  • Excellent command of Thai and English
  • Team work oriented but with a capacity to work independently
  • Proven writing (e.g. translation Thai to English and vice versa) and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skill and ability to maintain trust and good working relationship with counterparts
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Microsoft Offices literate
  • Ability to work in a multi‐cultural environment and respect diversity

 

General Information

 

  1. a) Interns are granted a stipend of Baht 12,018.00 per month as partial contribution to accommodation and living expenses. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her University or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration will not be eligible for the stipend.
  2. b) Before commencing work, the Intern will be required to obtain a fit-to-work medical certificate from his/her doctor and submit vaccination records.
  3. c) The Intern will be responsible for obtaining the necessary entry visa and arranging their travel to

Bangkok. IOM will assist only in issuing documents required in visa processing.

  1. d) IOM only covers the Intern against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. The Intern is responsible for his/her own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness, and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
  2. e) Any work produced by interns during their internship within the framework of the duties assigned to them should be used for academic purposes exclusively. All economic and moral rights (copyright) pertaining to such work will remain the exclusive property of IOM.

 

Languages

 

Fluency in English and Thai is required.
