Job Description: FAMILY REINTEGRATION SOCIAL WORKER

Starfish Country Home School Foundation is a Thai Foundation operating education and protection programs in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces.

The Foundation is entirely funded by an American based endowment with the Starfish Education Foundation and as such its operations are financially secure.

The mission of the Foundation is to elevate and improve access to quality education for all children living in Thailand. We do so by operating our own Kindergarten and elementary school in Mae Taeng, Chiang Mai province and by operating Boarding houses to allow children and teenage students to access education in the cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai as well as Mae Taeng. In Chiang Mai we also host children and youth referred by the Child Welfare Department.

 We currently host over 90 students in our Chiang Mai residential program.

 The residential programs were first planned over 10 years ago when many remote villages had no schools and roads were in poorer conditions. Much has changed in Thailand and the Foundation is undergoing a restructuring and stronger emphasis will be based on the ability to support families to look after their children while ensuring they can access and remain in schools while living at home.

 We believe that every child deserves to live with his/her family. For this reason we want to develop reintegration plans for every child and ensure reintegration is done in a safe and sustainable way by working with each child and family.

OVERVIEW

As Family Reintegration Social Worker you will prepare  reintegration  children  a family environment in line with the  best practices of alternative care.

 This includes following up case management and organize the reintegration process into a family environment, and follow up cases of completed reintegration to ensure children are and remain safe.

ROLE

• Open individual case management of children in Starfish Homes
• Collect and explore situation the children different options for their future need.
• Trace and assess family situation the children provide based on their needs such as: counselling, life skills, education, materials support, income generating, etc.
• Follow up all cases of children reintegrated in a family environment
• Monitoring of the delivery of services to maintain the best quality of the family reintegration.

REQUIREMENTS

• You are an independent and dynamic social worker, passionate about social services who is able to work in close collaboration with other teams and organizations
• You have a strong commitment to quality and positive results the marginalized population
• You have a strong interest in ensuring children live in safe family settings whenever possible
• Your knowledge of English, Shan, Akha, Lisu is a plus
• You know how to use emails, MS Word and instant messaging
• You have no less than 3 years’ experience working as a social worker focusing on case management and/or family reintegration.
• You don’t mind visiting rural and mountain villages as part of your job.
• Be prepared  to work flexibly hours  certain situations.
• Degree  or masters  in relevant field  with preference of social  or development qualifications or 5 years’ experience in a similar position.
• You will be our full time employee, in Chiang Mai.

LOCATION: Chiang Mai with trips to Chiang Rai province.

REPORTING

Line Manager (= the immediate superior in the management chain; the person who signs off your holiday requests, directs your time allocation, and will deliver any disciplinary proceedings): family reintegration manager.

 Staff manager (oversees quality and correctness of your work): Foundation’s DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL SERVICES
