Overview:
The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.
Role Profile:
The Finance and Operations Manager will be responsible for supporting the Country Manager in recording and receiving financial details including maintaining accurate financial records, processing payments, coordinating with ZSL CP Ops; Finance and ZSL Headquarters, and cash handling to meet the requirements of Thailand Country Program and policies of ZSL. Additionally, this position will provide HR, operational and logistical support to the ZSL Thailand Program. This post will support the Country Manager in providing a complete finance service to the Thailand Program and providing all relevant information to meet external demands based on ZSL policy.
The Finance and Operations Manager will be based in Kanchanaburi.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Conservation Programme (CP) - Asia and CP Operations to ensure they are supported by proper and sufficient documentation, and comply with ZSL policies
- Lead the operations-side of the ZSL Thailand team, under the Country Manager, to ensure that ZSL operates in compliance with Thai Government regulations
- Ensure that all required reports to the Thai Government are completed satisfactorily and submitted in a timely manner
- Update and maintain accurate financial and operational records in line with ZSL financial standards and auditable conditions.
- Coordinate with Country Manager and Project Managers to ensure timely submission of financial and narrative reports, for ZSL, donors and the Thai Government
- Work with the Country Manager, ZSL Headquarters and relevant partners to develop an HR manual and SOPs that comply both with ZSL policies and Thai Government regulations
- Maintain a complete and orderly filling system for all financial and narrative documents
- Provide complete and accurate documentation attached to vouchers prior to submitting for review
- Responsible for maintaining petty cash and all bank transactions in a manner consistent with ZSL requirements
- Review monthly project expense submission and corrects any errors prior to submission
- Work with the Country Manager, ZSL Headquarters and the HR department to develop and standardise the employment structure, job descriptions, job salary grading and benefits packages in line with ZSL Headquarters agreed principles and relevant Thai labour laws.
- Manage, maintain and administer ZSL Thailand’s HR records including personnel forms and files, staff lists and organograms
- Administer staff induction as agreed with ZSL Headquarters ensuring all HR, Health and Safety and finance policies and procedures are understood
Person Specification:

Qualifications & Experience
- A minimum of a Bachelors degree in accounting
- Experience working in similar position with an international NGO is preferred
- Strong analytical and interpretative problem solving skills
- Self-motivated and resourceful, with the proven ability to multi-task and operate successfully under tight deadlines and time pressures
- Experience with Quickbooks and/or SunSystems preferred
Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of accounting process and procedure
- Knowledge of human resources cycle e.g. recruitment, induction, people management, appraisal, training etc.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Thai government regulations regarding International NGOs
Skills & Abilities
- Computer literacy (excellent IT skills); competent in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Able to work independently without supervision but also accustomed to working in a team environment
- Good communications skills - able to express complex information in a simple and succinct manner
- Self-starter, pro-active and uses initiative - can work independently and priorities own work load
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Thai and English
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Flexible and able to work under pressure and often to tight deadlines; including the ability to prioritize tasks
