 Background

The Transforming Surge Capacity project aims to strengthen civil society surge capacity, i.e. the capacity of organisations to swiftly scale-up (and down) resources and people in a disaster. The project brings together 11 agencies1 who are part of the Start Network and two technical partners2 to test out and generate learning on collaborative and localised approaches to surge, which involve multiple stakeholders outside of civil society (such as the UN and the private sector). The project is being implemented through collaborative platforms in the Philippines and Pakistan with an Asia regional hub led from Bangkok.

Objective

In 2017, which is the final year of the project, a number of research and evidence pieces will need to be completed. The regional platform of the project, which is led by Plan International, will collect a number of case studies and gather data for a final research report. These data will come from a number of sources, including satisfaction surveys, training surveys and interviews. Information will also be gathered from individual project pilots. All data from the regional platform will need to be gathered by the end of June 2017.

The intern will be responsible for completing the following tasks:

  1. (50%) Writing up data from the different evidence pieces for submission to the project team or sharing with external audiences. In particular, these are:
  • Data for the final research report of the project
  • 3-5 case studies from the Asia region
  • Evidence pieces from the regional shared roster, the project’s external roster and the pilot with the private sector
  1. (25%) Liaising with the Regional Platform Coordinator, the research consultant for the project and potentially other project stakeholders in order to fulfil the above tasks.
  2. (15%) Supporting the preparatory work for a regional platform meeting in Bangkok in April 2017, including logistics and information materials.
  3. (10%) Supporting the design of information materials that will be used by the regional platform to promote existing activities with external stakeholders (tbc).

Time Line,

The intern is expected to start on 3rd April 2017 and to complete his/her assignment on 30th June 2017.

Compensation,

The Intern will be paid a compensation to cover his/her travelling, food expense and etc.
