We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of:  Behavior Change Communication (BCC) Specialist, Wildlife Asia project

 

Job Summary / Responsibilities:

The BCC Specialist will provide technical assistance to planning, implementing and evaluating communication campaigns to reduce consumer demand for illegal wildlife and wildlife products, and support capacity strengthening interventions of the USAID Wildlife Asia Project. S/he will support planning and management of demand reduction activities including formative and evaluative research studies, and development of BCC strategies, materials and tools. S/he will also assist in training and coaching to enhance knowledge and skills on BCC for demand reduction, coordination among partner organizations and knowledge sharing. The BCC Specialist shall work under the direct supervision of FHI 360’s Objective 1 Lead/Senior SBCC Specialist of the USAID Wildlife Asia Project.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support situation analyses, formative and evaluation research, as needed, to inform programming
  • Support development of BCC strategies, materials, media, and implementation plans that reflect global best practices. Provide quality assurance and support to on-the-ground implementers
  • Coordinate the review and adaptation of existing behavior change communication modules and capacity strengthening tools for use in demand reduction efforts to counter wildlife trafficking

  • Support the design, delivery, and monitoring of technical assistance plans and training to strengthen partners’ ability to design, implement, and evaluate demand reduction programs targeting behavior change
  • Assist in knowledge sharing and partner collaboration efforts and provide support to relevant technical working groups
  • Promote sustainability of project activities with effective networking, coordination, and linkages to other programs, partners, and counterparts
  • Document and prepare reports on demand reduction and capacity strengthening activities of the project
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities

CONTRIBUTIONS:

 

Will contribute significantly to the achievement of project’s demand reduction goals under Objective 1 and M&E indicators

 

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree or its international equivalent in communication, social marketing, or a related field; experience with biodiversity and/or conservation programs an advantage

  • Understanding of and expertise in behavior change communication

  • At least 5 years of experience supporting and managing communication programs in a development field

  • Some experience working with market research and creative agencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to plan and conduct participatory training activities

  • Demonstrated ability to document activities and workshops

  • Experience working in Asian countries, with an emphasis on Thailand, Vietnam, or China preferred

  • Logical and analytical thinker

  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent people skills and proven ability to work as an effective team member

  • Ability to set priorities while multi-tasking, and meet deadlines

  • Ability to travel within the Asian region

 

EXPERTISE AND COMPLEXITY:

 

Demonstrated expertise and experience in behavior change communication and training/capacity building; project documentation; some experience in working in biodiversity and/or conservation programs, preferably in wildlife trafficking or demand reduction; experience in working with USAID-funded programs desirable

 

TYPE AND NATURE OF CONTACTS:

Will attend meetings with USAID RDMA, Country Missions; will have regular contact with relevant staff from NGOs, other organizations and groups involved in the Wildlife Asia project; possible meetings with other USG and donor agencies

 

SUPERVISORY AND BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY

No supervisory responsibility; need to know how to budget project activities e.g., workshop, training, travel costs, how to monitor expenses and prepare expense reports relevant to the activities

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Full-time office job; position will have a working space/office in the Wildlife Asia Project office at 208 Wireless Road, Bangkok with travel within Thailand and the Asian region

 

NOTE:    Applicant must be eligible to work in Thailand. No expatriate benefits or allowances provided.
