Graphic Designer

RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests holds a unique and important place in the world of forestry. It is the only international not‐for‐profit organization that specializes in capacity development for community forestry and devolved forest management. RECOFTC engages in strategic networks and effective partnerships with governments, nongovernment organizations, civil society, the private sector, local people, and research and educational institutes throughout the Asia‐Pacific region and beyond. With 30 years of international experience and a dynamic approach to capacity development—involving research, analysis and synthesis; strategic communication; training and learning networks; and piloting and demonstrating—RECOFTC delivers innovative solutions for people and forests.

 

RECOFTC is now seeking a Graphic Designer under Strategic Communication (StratCom) unit. The successful candidate will be based at RECOFTC headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. The contract period will be 9 months, starting from January 2017 to September 2017, with a possibility of extension.

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Graphic Designer works as a member of the Strategic Communication (StratCom) unit. S/he will assume primary responsibility for design, layout, graphics, and photography for the Center’s print and electronic publications. S/he will work closely with other program units as and when required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The Graphic Designer’s main tasks and responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Responsible for RECOFTC publication design and lay out;
  • Responsible for web and print graphics and/or illustrations for training materials and other publications as necessary, including development of interactive infographics and other dynamic web elements;
  • Ensure highest quality and deadline of publication printing are met;
  • Help coordinate social media and online campaigning/activities
  • Support RECOFTC’s photo database
  • Provide creative support to RECOFTC’s communication and marketing activities and projects, including events and campaigns;
  • Video clip production and basic editing;
  • Develop and design RECOFTC presentations through working with teams across the organization; 
  • Support Communications Officer and Assistant Communications Officer in web design;
  • Support Communication Manager in the development of organizational brand identity and organizational profile;
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the Strategic Communication Manager.

 

 

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The Graphic Designer will have the following essential qualifications and experience:

Essential:

  • Bachelor Degree in web/graphic design with at least 5 years work experience
  • Up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies in new media
  • Expert knowledge of design programs such as InDesign, Illustrator,

Photoshop, FinalCut Pro

  • Experience in taking videos, editing clips for website
  • Keen eye for detail and artistic sensibility
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and fluent in English
  • Flexible, creative, and collaborative working style
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, individually and in groups, with ability to work as an active member of multi‐cultural and multidisciplinary teams
  • Thai Nationality

 

Desirable:

  • Previous work experience with an international NGO
  • Excellent photography skills

 

General:

In addition to job specific skills and experience, the applicant should possess the following characteristics (including attitudes and skills):

 

  • Ability to adapt quickly to new working environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, with the experience and expertise to make complex design decisions with budget implications
  • Initiative and ability to make informed independent judgments (which are consistent with an overall team approach); and
  • Ability to work in a variety of cultural and institutional contexts
