Job Title and Summary: The Director of Animal Welfare is responsible for the overall management of Soi Dog Foundation's animal-related programs. Serving as the key spokesperson and visible community leader of the organization, the Director of Animal Welfare will have the unique opportunity to influence and improve upon veterinary and sheltering operations and community outreach. He/she is instrumental in helping to achieve Soi Dog's vision of eliminating the suffering of stray dogs and cats in Asia. He/she works to ensure the continued evolution of the Soi Dog Foundation clinic to provide humane and high quality care for sick and injured animals as well as provide routine sterilization activities for stray dogs and cats.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management Duties
- Works with various departments to prepare and submit an annual budget
- Ensures the Animal Welfare Department operates within budget guidelines
- When necessary, oversees and assists with grant planning and application processes.
- May assist with enhancing the shelter's fundraising and development capacity through special events and cultivation of potential donors
Board Relations Duties
- Prepares and develops oral reports for the Board of Directors regarding departmental operations when necessary
- Serves as a liaison between Board of Directors, management, and support staff
Staff/Volunteer Management Duties
- Maintains a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people
- Ensures that job descriptions are developed and that regular performance evaluations are conducted
- Fosters veterinary volunteerism at the shelter, maintaining a positive and supportive environment
Administrative Duties
- Oversees the daily administrative operations
- Ensures veterinary compliance with Thai laws and regulations
- Continually evaluates shelter and hospital operations and organizational programs
- Ensures that accurate and complete medical records for Soi Dog Foundation animals are maintained and relayed to required third parties
- Implements systems to improve veterinary medical care and animal husbandry
- Hires, develops, and implements veterinary medical outreach programs
- Collaborates with local hotels and businesses to implement CVNR programs
Animal Shelter/Hospital Management Duties
- Implements strategies which responsibly increases adoptions, improves animal care, provides behaviour and medical rehabilitation, encourages sterilization in the community, and helps animals stay with their feeders and owners
- Directs, supervises, and instructs personnel in the well-being and humane treatment of animals
- Identifies and facilitates veterinary training opportunities Thai veterinarians
- Facilitates medical issues with animals adopted oversees
- Oversees and implements animal shelter intake and euthanasia policies
- Responsible for hiring, supervising, promoting, disciplining, and terminating staff members as well as for providing regular, on-going feedback and timely evaluations.
- Monitors staff safety compliance
- Enforces biosecurity practices to limit the potential transmission of infectious disease
- Identifies ways to expand spay/neuter services throughout the community
- Responsible for shelter and hospital disaster/emergency planning and response
- Assembles a mobile outreach team to provide animal treatment and training to members in the community
Department and Supervisor: The position is report to SDF Board members.
Skills and Qualifications: Thai nationalityONLY and should have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and active veterinary license. Experience in non-profit management is a must. He or she should have proven skills in personnel management and organizational leadership. The ability to multi-task in a fast paced, challenging environment is crucial. Compassion, honesty, integrity and transparency.
