Job Description
Position/Title: IT Specialist
USAID Wildlife Asia Activity
The USAID Wildlife Asia Activity seeks to significantly reduce wildlife crime in Southeast Asia and China by employing a comprehensive regional cooperation approach. Specifically Wildlife Asia will (i) Reduce consumer demand for wildlife and wildlife products in target areas; (ii) Strengthen regional law enformedment capacity and coordination; (iii) Increase commitment to addressing counter wildlife trafficking (CWT); and, (iv) Support the USAID Regional Development Mission for Asia’s (RDMA’s) regional coordination of CWT stakeholders and efforts to strengthen the US Government (USG) interagency CWT initiatives. The USAID Wildlife Asia Activity’s geographic scope includes all ASEAN countries, with a focus on the Lower Mekong (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia) and China.
Role
The IT Specialist will support the information and technology needs of the Wildlife Asia Activity, including server maintenance.
Responsibilities
The IT Specialist shall be responsible for supporting the following activities:
- Recommend hardware and software requirements needed for the project, including supplies detailed specification and quantities etc.
- Install, re-install, and/or update computer software and hardware
- Set-up and configure staff computer systems, including configuration to server and printers
- Confer with management to establish or change system requirements to meet program needs
- Manage IT inventory
- Oversee, modify, and administer the central program databases (e.g. SharePoint) as directed, ensuring accurate and timely entry of program activities
- Conduct periodic trainings for Wildlife Asia project staff in the use of computer programs, database, etc.
- Perform and/or oversee the maintenance of Wildlife Asia computers and printers.
- Ensure employee compliance with IT policies
- Update anti-virus software on a regular basis update all software and ensure compatibility.
- Provide regular maintenance of computers to include updating software, cleaning of viruses defragmenting and cleaning.
- Manage Network equipment; Cisco ASA firewall, LAN, WAN and make sure it is properly functioning.
- Set up all project computers with appropriate software and tools needed for internet connectivity and printing, and update and/or clean computers for new employees joining the project.
- Provide IT support services to project staff, addressing remedial issues in a timely manner.
- Serve as the principal liaison with the internet provider to make sure proper internet is available and functioning.
- Work with project vendors and project Operations Team to ensure landline phones are properly operational and connected.
Reporting
The IT Specialist will report to the Chief of Party and/or his/her designee.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of progressive, relevant experience in IT
- Demonstrated experience implementing open source platforms and software
- Familiarity working with and maintaining a server
- Familiarity with working with and maintaining SharePoint systems and Microsoft 365 user accounts
- USAID project IT experience strongly preferred
- Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
- Excellent customer service experience, especially in the IT field
- Bachelor’s degree required in relevant field.
- Must be currently living in Thailand and fluent in written and spoken English and Thai.
