The Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF) (burmachildren.com; facebook.com/burmachildren) is a non-profit organisation that was established in 2006 to facilitate the treatment of surgeries and other complex conditions for vulnerable people from Burma in Thai hospitals. Since then, BCMF has expanded to building the capacity and improving access to medical care amongst vulnerable communities in Burma and in Thailand, through an increasing number of health-related outreach projects.
Job Overview/Summary
The Grant Writer & Programs Assistant will work alongside the Deputy Directors and the Director & Founder to support the organisation by searching for donors, writing grant applications and reporting to donors and other stakeholders. He/she will assist and support the Deputy Directors and the Director & Founder with supporting staff, interns and volunteers in achieving their tasks, and with creating, editing and finalising organisational documents.
Primary Responsibilities:
Grant Writer:
- Assist the Director & Founder with ensuring full records are maintained in the donor database, including grants submission dates, key deadlines, donated items, etc.
- Assist the Director & Founder with ensuring all donations are processed quickly and correctly, and donors are thanked in a timely manner.
- Identify potential sources of funding, in close cooperation with the Director & Founder and relevant project managers, researching and reaching out to potential donors
- Oversee the timely and accurate submission of proposals and donor reports, working with relevant project managers, Director & Founder and the Deputy Directors, in addition to drafting and finalising proposals and reports.
- Work with relevant project managers to ensure project compliance with donor requirements
- Over long-term, with guidance from the Director & Founder and the Deputy Directors, take lead on specific grants and donor relations
- Ensure all applications, reports, deadlines and relevant information are tracked in the donor database
- Build and maintain effective relationships with donors
Programs Associate:
- Assist the Deputy Directors with editing organisational material in English, Burmese and preferably Karen
- Assist the Deputy Directors with creating annual reports
- Support project managers with creating year end project reports
- Support staff, volunteers and interns with assigned projects, reports and tasks as needed
- Assist the Deputy Directors with creating and updating documents, policies and standard operating procedures relating to human resources, organisational content and programs
- Contribute to external representation of the organisation in relevant working groups, seminars and related fora, and among donors and other NGOs
Secondary Responsibilities:
Assist the Deputy Directors with:
- Recruiting new volunteers and interns
- Holding inductions with new international and local volunteers and interns
- Ensuring policies and procedures are followed by all volunteers and interns
- Evaluating international volunteers and interns’ stay at BCMF by assisting with analysing the volunteer exit questionnaire on a yearly basis and reporting findings and areas for improvement
- Ensuring the current volunteers files are up to date
- Advertising volunteer and internship opportunities on appropriate websites as needed
- Updating content on the organisation’s website
- Editing draft posts for social media
General responsibilities:
- Conduct and document patient interviews
- Assist with outreach projects in both Thailand and Burma as needed

Position requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
- Native/Advanced knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Thai, Karen or Burmese is highly desirable
- Proven experience in proposal, project, or programme development, reporting, or grants management in the non-profit sector
- Excellent communication and drafting skills for effective reporting required
- Experience working in the non-profit sector preferred
- Very good proactivity and organisational skills, anticipation, respect of planning and deadlines, with ability to work independently
Conditions
- Starting date: As soon as possible
- Ability to work in Thailand legally
- Remuneration: 10,000 – 15,000 THB based on experience
- Fixed-term full-time contract based in Mae Sot, Thailand
- Standard office environment with occasional field work to perform the above outlined responsibilities
- May require occasional weekends and/or evening work
