The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we are seeking a Part-time Caseworker, Mae Sot, Thailand to conduct and monitor investigation and assist victim response related to forced criminality trafficking.

This position is based in Mae Sot, Tak province, Thailand, and reports to the Head of Investigations and Law Enforcement Development in Bangkok.

 

Responsibilities

Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation:

  1. Develop a thorough working knowledge of relevant laws, concepts and criminal procedures related to human trafficking, forced labor and forced criminality.
  2. Develop a thorough working knowledge of the modus operandi of human traffickers and the investigative methodologies and techniques used in human trafficking investigations specific to the Mae Sot, Tak province area.

Casework:

  1. Properly strategize the development and investigation of cases and develop effective investigative plans to progress the case forward to a successful conclusion.
  2. Conduct thorough, detailed, well-documented investigations and victim interviews.
  3. Analyze data to drive investigation and victim assistance strategies.
  4. Develop relationships of trust with victims to generate the needed information and obtain victim support for interventions.
  5. Be “on call” to respond to calls for assistance from victims of labor trafficking and trusted local NGO partners.
  6. Obtain and or assist trusted partners in securing food, safe lodging, and/or medical care for victims of forced scamming and labor trafficking.
  7. Advocate for and support human trafficking victim screening or victim identification efforts through Thailand’s National Referral Mechanism (NRM).
  8. Coordinate between victims of labor trafficking, trusted partners, and local Thai government authorities to support labor trafficking cases.

Networking & Partnership:

  1. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local Thai governmental officials responsible for responding to cases of human trafficking and forced labor.
  2. Collaborate with community members and NGO partners to receive and respond to reports of trafficking, gather accurate and relevant information about trafficking activity within communities, and strategically analyze casework.

Documentation, Reporting & Data Management:

  1. Write detailed investigative reports and victim interviews, and submit them to the HILED promptly.
  2. Competently work with various databases, record management systems, communication networks, and specialized equipment.
  3. Maintain strict confidentiality of all investigations, investigative strategies, and other privileged and sensitive information.

Requirements:

  • University degree, preferably in a relevant field such as criminal justice, social work, and psychology, or equivalent skills or other relevant work experience.
  • At least two years of experience in conducting criminal investigations or other transferable experience.
  • Specific experience in working with victims of migrant workers and/or victims of human trafficking preferred.
  • Fluency in oral and written communication in Thai and English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software is required.
  • No criminal record.
