1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Thailand implements a range of national and regional projects aimed at addressing migration challenges and delivering increased protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants in partnership with government, civil society and private sector counterparts.
Through the Preparedness, Response and Recovery (PRR) and Protection programming, IOM Thailand implements a range of national and regional projects aimed at addressing migration challenges and delivering increased protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants in partnership with government, civil society and private sector counterparts. With support from the PRM, IOM is implementing projects that provides humanitarian assistance and protection support with special focus on improving the living conditions and health outcomes (including mental health and psychosocial wellbeing) for migrant children, women, youth and other vulnerable migrants in Thailand.
Working under the direct supervision of the Head of Unit, Preparedness, Response and Recovery, technical supervision of the Programme Manager, Protection, and in close coordination with the Migrant Health Unit, the Programme Assistant will be responsible for assisting the implementation of the mental health and psychosocial support activities to vulnerable migrants under DRR and protection programming.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Support the implementation and monitoring of PRR and Protection interventions to vulnerable migrants and victims of trafficking in Immigration Detention Centers (IDCs), Shelters for Children and Families, Welfare Protection Centers for Victims of Trafficking and other facilities or migrants hosting communities as may be appropriate, including timely delivery, quality control, administrate matters follow-up and financial support in line with IOM policies and procedures and donor requirements.
- In coordination with project teams under relevant units (PRR, PXU, MHD), and local authorities, facilitate mental health and psychosocial activities, such as but not limited to psychological first aid, art or play therapy, games, informal group discussion and peer support, as well as facilitating referrals to in-depth individual counseling for beneficiaries.
- Carry-out individual consultations interviews with vulnerable migrants (VoTs, UMSC, etc.) through screening and vulnerability assessments, and provide in-kind assistance and referral services to protection actors in line with IOMs protection principles and approaches.
- Develop and complete beneficiary profiles and needs assessments, through collecting vulnerability data, document and filing case records in IOMs database (MIMOSA) in accordance with IOM Data Protection Principles.
- Support in the review and development of capacity-building materials, and recommend appropriate training modalities as may be necessary.
- Assist with the delivery of psychosocial care training for service providers, including to government and non-government counterparts.
- Assist in the provision of technical guidance support to on-call psychologists on how to conduct psychosocial support activities to migrants in project locations.
- Assist in the preparation of needs assessments and pre/post evaluation of special needs cases and individuals, as well as statistical information and reports on the psychosocial assistance provided by IOM to its beneficiaries (number of cases, nationalities, age, etc.)
- Maintain positive relations with local implementing actors and stakeholders for the successful and timely implementation of above-mentioned duties and services.
- Undertake regular travel within and outside of duty station as may be required for official duties and providing psychosocial services;
- Any other related duties that may be assigned by supervisor
3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
- High School diploma with at least five years of relevant professional experience.
- University degree in Psychology, Mental Health of Social Workers, or any related field from accredited academic institution with at least three years of relevant professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience providing logistics/admin support in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Peace building, Social Cohesion, and Community Organizing.
- Work experience and knowledge of migrant children and child protection in Thailand context is an advantage.
- Experience in liaising and working with both central and provincial-level government counterparts;
SKILLS
- High interpersonal skills in dealing with colleagues and the community is a must;
- Knowledge of programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
- Excellent writing, communication and negotiation skills;
- Excellent analytical abilities and demonstrated capacity to draft and edit technical documents;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain trust and good working relationships with counterparts;
- Capacity for creative thinking;
- Team-oriented, but with capacity to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility;
- Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to deliver under tight timelines
4. LANGUAGES
- Fluency in Thai and English (oral and written) is required.
- Fluency in Burmese and Khmer is an advantage.
