JOB DESCRIPTION
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an International Catholic agency with a mission to accompany, serve and defend the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. It is essentially a service-oriented organization offering direct assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons in Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. The style of service is direct and personal, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced persons, while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs. It offers opportunities to a wide variety of staff, local and international, while maintaining localized scheme of salary/stipend, insurance, benefits, etc.
In Asia Pacific, JRS is present in 8 countries including Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. JRS Asia Pacific serves forcibly displaced person including asylum seekers, refugees, and internally displaced persons throughout urban and rural areas. The main areas of work include education, psychosocial services, peace and reconciliation, livelihoods, and protection issues. In July 2023, JRS will implement the project , “Sustaining Education Program for Burmese Refugees”, focusing on access to quality basic education to refugees from Myanmar. This consultancy position is established to coordinate the project design and development process for the period January to April 2023.
Overall Position Purpose:
The Project Development Consultant is responsible for coordinating the project development and design activities of the approved project “Sustaining Education Program for Burmese Refugees”, a multi-year project grant starting in July 2023. While this is a multi-year grant, the project design output during the consultancy period is for the first year, July 2023 to June 2024. The consultant is also responsible for writing the final project design with review and inputs from JRS and implementation partners such as Karenni Education Department (KnED).
