Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a public enterprise owned by the German Federal Government. German development cooperation in Thailand has been operating through GIZ since 1956 when Germany and Thailand signed the Agreement on Development Economic Cooperation. With time, GIZ activity have evolved towards technical cooperation in particular in the field of environment and energy.
The GIZ Energy team implements several projects supporting the energy transition in Thailand and the region jointly with government and public partners (Energy Policy Planning Office, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Energy Regulatory Commission, power utilities etc.) as well as in cooperation with universities and private sector representatives. Although each team members is focusing on one or two projects, the team works as one and the portfolio offers ample opportunities for diverse, challenging and exciting work opportunities in one of the most important sectors for the environmental and economic future of Thailand.
To contribute to the implementation of one of its most important projects and the development of its portfolio, GIZ Energy is recruiting a senior advisor who will contribute to the implementation of a number of activities under the supervision of the Energy programme director and in close cooperation with the rest of the team. The main focus will be the preparation and implementation of the new International Climate Initiative Bilateral project, the TGC EMC.
Senior Advisor Energy Market
The Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility and Climate (TGC-EMC): the programme’s objective is the acceleration of Thailand (THA) ’s energy transition towards a sustainable model ensuring economic growth and compatibility with high climate ambitions. The focus is on the two largest and strongly interlinked GHG emitting sectors: electricity and transport. Support to THA’s leapfrogging will be provided through a holistic approach focusing on the transition’s barriers and triggers which have been identified: O1 technical and operational challenges (i.e. through know how and technology transfer), O3 City Labs – implementation to scale (innovation creation as well proof of concept tested in cooperative pilot projects) and O2 addressing regulatory challenges (i.e. through a joint approach aiming at the removal of policy and market barriers and comprehensive incentives). The TGC EMC covers 4 subsectors among which energy is one of the most important. The preparation phase of this programme is ongoing and will last throughout 2022 for an implementation between 2023 and 2027.
Task and responsibilities:
The senior energy advisor manages independently his own tasks from technical input to stakeholders relation (with a focus on energy institutions and power utilities), coordination and organisation contributing to the successful implementation of our projects.
