Consultancy Vacancy Announcement: Part-time Translator
Job Title: Translator for academic research
Payment: 500 Baht per page (approximately 500 words of text to be provided per page)
Objective: The Thai Positive Parenting Community of Practice (TPP CoP) was launched in June 2022 to advocate for, facilitate knowledge exchange, and collaboratively promote the scaling up of positive parenting for child protection, well-being, and healthy development in Thailand. The TPP CoP operates as a peer network for sharing experiences, lessons learned, research findings, programme materials, and strategies, as well as for identifying opportunities for joint advocacy on positive parenting.
As one of the co-organizers of the TPP CoP, the Peace Culture Foundation is looking for a translator to accurately translate abstracts from academic research papers and reports from Thai to English and English to Thai.
The translator will be given work for abstracts for translation on a weekly basis, ranging from 1 to 10 pages of text. To be successful in this role, you should have a keen eye for detail, be familiar with academic research, be fluent in Thai and English, and have experience conducting both Thai to English and English to Thai translation.
Ultimately, you will provide ready-to-use translated content that meets our internal needs and helps us to reach a broader audience.
Responsibilities
- Translate abstracts from Thai to English and English to Thai on a weekly basis
- Ensure translated content conveys original meaning and tone
- Cross-reference academic dictionaries and translation tools to check the quality of the translation
- Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy
- Share the translated text with the Peace Culture Foundation focal point to ensure translations are appropriate and conduct any further revisions as needed
Requirements and skills
- Proven work experience as a translator (Thai to English and English to Thai)
- Fluency in Thai and English
- Familiarity with academic research (i.e., public health, psychology, social sciences)
- Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills
- Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail
