Senior Trainer

Fixed Term Contract until September 2024



 CNS Global Consulting are currently recruiting on behalf of an international Human Rights NGO in South East Asia. You will be the Senior Trainer for a new project. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, further details of the project and organisation will be revealed to candidates later in the recruitment process. You will have excellent facilitation skills with a proven track record in designing and delivering outstanding trainings. You will work within the Programming and Operations Team. You will be responsible for the effective design, delivery and evaluation of a diverse range of training; as well as providing ongoing support to participants.


Reporting to: Project Manager

Location: This position is based in South East Asia; we will consider remote working for exceptional candidates who are able to travel regularly to the region.

Salary: $50,000 per annum


Please note that we work in challenging environments. As part of this role you will occasionally be required to deal with urgent problems outside of office hours. You will have shared responsibility for the welfare of the networks of local actors that we partner with, ensuring they have the support and resources they need to do their work well. In turn, you will be provided with the support and training needed to do this work by a small but dedicated international team.



  • Training Design – Respond to the needs of partners by designing bespoke, participatory training plans; adapting plans as needed to respond to a fast-changing external context (this will be done with support from a Training Manager)
  • Training Delivery – Deliver engaging training (both remotely and, where possible, in person) that serves partner needs
  • Training Evaluation – Assess the efficacy of training and work reflectively to integrate learning into future trainings
  • Capacity Building – Ensure the learning needs of partners are identified and met in a timely manner
  • Facilitation – Expertly facilitate groups to ensure maximum understanding and participation; be keenly aware of power dynamics and proactively work to create a safe space where all voices are heard and respected
  • Security management – Alongside the Security Officer, ensure our partners have the support and tools they need to operate securely (this includes physical, digital and psycho-social security)
  • Equipment maintenance – Alongside the Technology Officer, ensure our partners have the hardware and software they need to do their work effectively and securely
  • Logistical and administrative support – such as helping to coordinate regional travel for training activities.
  • Partner Support - Be the first point of contact for support to partners as they implement their new skills and ways of working; be available to problem solve with them and provide practical solutions to ongoing challenges.
  • Due diligence and risk management – support the Project Manager to ensure that all direct partner support and training activity complies with the organization’s global standards and protocols.
  • Undertake other duties which may be reasonably required in the position and contribute to wider activity and the overall success of the project.




  • Extensive experience of designing and delivering bespoke, participatory training to diverse groups both remotely and in person
  • An expert facilitator able to tend to the needs of a group holistically and confidently
  • At least seven years professional experience working in the field of human rights or international development
  • A solid understanding of the human rights and justice sector in South East Asia with specific knowledge of local organizations, their activities and networks
  • A solid knowledge of South East Asian history, socio-economic, political and cultural context
  • Demonstrable proficiency in digital security including encryption, secure communications and privacy tools.
  • Strong IT skills
  • Experience working in hostile environments and sensitive to the logistical and security challenges that this entails
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; excellent written and spoken communication
  • Strong people management skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with staff across different regions as part of a global team; ability to work across cultures and time zones
  • Sensitivity and respect for differences in race, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression
  • A great team player with the ability to work alone; flexible, creative and calm under pressure.
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills
  • Strong decision-making ability to resolve problems quickly and carefully under pressure in situations of uncertainty
