Malteser International is a German non-governmental organization providing humanitarian assistance and development aid for people in need in over 20 countries. Malteser International is currently working with temporary displaced persons shelters in Sob-Moei district, Mae Hong Son province in Thailand. With funding provided by the European Union for the project “Health and WASH services, Return-preparedness and Capacity Strengthening for Refugees in the Thai –Myanmar Border Temporary Shelters”, our office located in Mae Sariang, is looking for efficient, motivated and experienced individuals for the position as Referral Assistant.

Position: Referral Assistant (1 position)

Duty Station: Chiang Mai

Contract Duration: 1 year initially (with possibility to extend)

Salary range: 20,000 Thb/month (plus benefits)

Main Responsibilities/Duties (summary)

Serve as an interpreter and translator for the patients and their relatives and Thai hospital staff to obtain proper medical treatment at Thai hospitals.
Support referral Supervisor to organize consultations for the patients at the Thai referral hospitals (OPD, IPD, lab, X-ray, etcetera).
Function as contact person for patients and their relatives/caretakers during their stay in Chiang Mai
Scheduled stand-by (on mobile phone), alternating with the Referral Supervisor, for emergency referrals.
Buying medicine and supplies for the patients and assist them to understand doctors’ instructions and prescriptions.
Tracking all documentation of patients at referral hospitals and share with the referral supervisor (birth certificates, death certificates, prescriptions, lab results, etcetera).
Communicate with referral supervisor on all issues of referral patients coming from the temporary shelters.
Arrange transportation of patients by driving MI car from patient house to Thai hospitals in Mae Sariang
Collect data and information related to patient food cost and stay period and signatures for the patient house for monthly reporting.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum grade 12^th graduate. Preferably with nursing assistant certificate or similar qualification.
Work experience in hospital setting or volunteer in relevant position.
Work experience with vulnerable population groups.
Experienced in translating medical terminology in Thai/Karen language
Good computer skills, Microsoft Office
Valid Thai driving license for car.
Ability to communicate fluently in Sgaw Karen language is a must/ Burmese language is considered as an advantage
